Gigantoonz: Slot Overview

One challenge with producing a landmark hit is deciding what comes after it. Is that the peak, with everything else destined to fall short, or do you roll up your sleeves, rethink the formula, and try to top yourself? After releasing Reactoonz—seen by many as one of the best grid slots ever—developer Play’n GO has opted for the latter, delivering a string of successors. Skeptics could argue the studio is leaning on a well-known name rather than forging a brand-new revolution, and there’s some truth to that view. Motivation aside, Play’n GO goes hunting the Reactoonz magic again with an online grid slot called Gigantoonz.

Gigantoonz blends ideas from the previous two entries, Reactoonz 2 and Dr Toonz, while introducing a few clear tweaks. The most obvious is the bigger playfield, now running on an 8×8 sized grid. That doesn’t necessarily mean wins arrive more often, since you need at least 6 matching symbols to create winning clusters. Visually, Gigantoonz keeps the swirling electric backdrop from part two, but the interface feels cleaner, more organised, and less busy than before. A cluster tracking meter sits on the left, the Quantumeter on the right, and Gigantoonz is set to go.

Reactoonz built a reputation for volatility, so it’s no surprise Gigantoonz follows suit, thanks to similar mechanics and a highly volatile math model rated 10 out of 10. RTP has slipped a little, landing at 96.25%, and can drop further depending on the setup. Bets range from 20 p/c to $/€100 per paid drop, and the adorable Toonz characters serve as the pay symbols: five one-eyed low pays worth 5-20x for a 30+ sized cluster and five two-eyed high pays worth 50-1,250x for a 30+ symbol winning cluster. Any winning cluster is cleared away so new symbols can fall into the grid. Cascades keep rolling until no additional winning cluster appears.

Gigantoonz: Slot Features

Compared to Reactoonz 2, Gigantoonz trims the feature set, focusing on Mega Symbols, Quantum Wilds, and four modifiers powered by a charged Quantumeter.

Mega Symbols

Mega symbols can land in 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, 6×6, or 7×7 sizes. When they contribute to wins, each mega symbol counts as a single symbol, but its cluster value comes from a randomised number up to 13. Every winning mega symbol leaves a wild behind on the grid when removed, and if a mega symbol can’t drop, any spaces beneath it are filled with its own 1×1 versions.

Quantum Wilds

On any non-winning spin, between 5 to 10 Quantum Wilds can randomly be added to the reels. Wilds substitute for all symbols.

Quantumeter

Every winning symbol adds 1 charge on the Quantumeter, while mega symbols contribute their cluster value. The meter stores up to 100 charges and activates 4 modifiers across four fixed milestones. The first three are:

  • Disintegration – collect 25 charges to remove all instances of 4 randomly selected symbols.
  • Metamorphosis – collect 50 charges to randomly transform all instances of one symbol into a different symbol. This includes mega symbols.
  • Radiation – collect 75 charges to add 1-4 mega symbols and 2-5 Quantum Wilds in random positions.

The Gargantoonz modifier activates at 100 charges and plays out in two steps:

  • Step 1 –  all mega symbols turn into mega Gargantoonz – at least 3 mega Gargantoonz appear no matter how many mega symbols are present. Also, 2 to 4 1×1 sized Gargantoonz appear. Mega Gargantoonz are not removed with wins.
  • Step 2 – mega Gargantoonz symbols break down into 1×1 sized Gargantoonz, which are removed as normal.

Gigantoonz: Slot Verdict

Given the divided response from players to Dr Toonz and Reactoonz 2, we approached Gigantoonz aiming to stay as impartial as possible. Reactoonz 2 didn’t help itself by creating uncertainty around its win potential. It launched with a 3,000x cap—oddly below the original—before being raised to 5,083x to make it more appealing. The written rules were nearly as baffling, even if the gameplay became clearer once you actually played. Gigantoonz, on the other hand, is easier to follow. The max win is plainly presented, and is slightly lower than Reactoonz 2—interestingly—while the core loop is more direct and closer to the original Reactoonz. Land wins, build the Quantumeter, trigger features, then do it again.

That said, there are plenty of smaller details that set Gigantoonz apart from earlier entries. The biggest is the arrival of mega symbols, which is a major headline feature for the game from a marketing angle. They’re genuinely huge on the grid, but the way their cluster value is assigned at random—capped at 13—feels unusual. It’s great when a smaller block rolls a higher number, and disappointing when a massive block gets a low value. The remaining features do their job well, building toward an exciting moment when the Quantumeter reaches its fourth tier and unleashes Gigantoonz symbols. Even the third-tier Radiation modifier can be a monster, and there’s a noticeable jump in impact from level two to level three and beyond. Of course, filling the meter in Gigantoonz is not going to be effortless. If you do manage to push it all the way, the win potential sits in a similar neighbourhood to the earlier games. Still, at 4,000x the bet, it’s the lowest cap of the series so far. Will Play’n GO return and raise the stakes? For now, we’ll have to wait.

Some players may judge it differently after firing off multiple Mega Gargantoonz on the fourth feature trigger, but Gigantoonz doesn’t quite dethrone the original. Even so, it delivers a steady stream of strong gameplay, making Gigantoonz a compelling addition to the ‘toonz’ slot lineup.
