Gates of Glory: Slot Overview

It’s scatter-win season again, and this time software provider iSoftBet is the one serving up the “pay anywhere” action, as long as enough matching symbols show up. The game built around this hugely popular mechanic is called Gates of Glory, a title that could be playful, slightly cheeky, or perhaps totally innocent (though that seems doubtful). That suspicion comes from the huge presence Pragmatic Play’s Gates of Olympus 1000 has in the scatter pays slot space, and from how closely many of Gates of Glory’s ideas line up with it.

Instead of Zeus, Gates of Glory puts Odin front and centre—The Allfather, ruler of Asgard, or ᚢᚦᛁᚾ in runes. He presides over a gritty, myth-heavy setting filled with classic imagery—mountains, an Odin Meter, and the usual thematic touches. Overall, the presentation is decent: the Norse atmosphere comes through, Odin looks suitably imposing, and there isn’t much to complain about visually. At the same time, it doesn’t exactly deliver a major “wow” moment either.

Being a scatter pays slot, you’ll need at least 8 matching symbols to form a win, and those symbols can land anywhere on the grid. The action plays out on a 6-reel, 5-row matrix. The game runs on a medium volatile model and offers a default RTP of 96% when staking 20 c to $/€20 per spin, or 96.02% if you enable the optional Odin Bet. Turning on Odin Bet raises the base stake by 25% and boosts the chance of triggering free spins.

Each spin uses a tumble system: winning symbols disappear, leaving holes on the grid. New symbols drop down to fill the spaces, giving another opportunity to connect wins. The tumbling continues until no further win is created. Symbol-wise, blue, green, yellow, purple, and red gems make up the low pays, while helms, axes, hammers, and Odin are the premium icons. An 8 OAK win pays 0.25 to 2.5 times the player’s stake, while 12+ matches return 1 to 25 times the bet. And if you’re hoping for wilds to stitch wins together, don’t—wilds aren’t part of Gates of Glory, either in the base game or the bonus.

Gates of Glory: Slot Features

Gates of Glory brings tumble wins, multiplier symbols, and free spins, with a couple of extra tweaks designed to stop it from feeling like a straight-up GOO copy.

Eye of Odin

Eye of Odin symbols carry a multiplier of x2 to x50. If multiple multipliers appear, their values are additive. Once a winning tumble sequence finishes, the combined multiplier is applied to the total win amount.

Free Spins

Landing 4 or more scatters activates the free spins feature. The Odin Meter can lend a hand, since it randomly lights 1, 2, or 3 of its positions, meaning fewer scatters are needed on the reels to start the free spins round. When the Odin Meter is full (4+), the bonus triggers. Each lit position counts as a scatter—so if 1 position is lit, that equals 1 scatter—meaning only 3 scatters would then be required on the reels. Hitting 4, 5, or 6 scatters awards 8, 10, or 12 free spins, in that order.

Eye of Odin symbols can still appear during the bonus. Multipliers are only active on spins when a win occurs. If an Eye of Odin lands and there’s no win, then the lowest-paid symbol is removed. Extra spins are also available: landing 3 scatters grants +2 spins, while landing 4 scatters grants +4 spins.

Odin Guarantee

If the free spins feature ends with winnings less than 10x the bet, Odin Guarantee kicks in and awards +4 additional free spins.

Gates of Glory: Slot Verdict

As noted earlier, iSoftBet has introduced a handful of adjustments to how Gates of Glory plays, though it’s not immediately obvious whether those changes are clear upgrades. The main question is whether the altered free spins flow feels like a fresh twist or more of a dampener. In the end, reactions will probably hinge on the outcomes players see—removing low-paying symbols and landing strong connections should naturally win people over. Still, the lack of a persistent total multiplier stands out, since that’s often a core part of how this style of slot tends to function. It may simply take time to settle into the differences and to value the fact that the developer is at least experimenting.

Even so, Gates of Glory doesn’t feel radically original, and there were moments where it came across as a game working hard to ride another slot’s momentum. To be fair, plenty of studios have likely looked at Pragmatic Play’s success in this niche with a bit of envy. That would explain the number of similarly built titles already out there—and why more are probably coming. For comparison, Blueprint Gaming’s scatter pays slot Eagle Storm launched around the same period as Gates of Glory as a rival. Eagle Storm arguably comes off as the stronger option by keeping a total win multiplier during free spins and allowing it to increase even when multiplier symbols land on non-winning spins (in one of its bonus buys). That familiar structure was easier to click with than Gates of Glory’s approach, which didn’t deliver the same level of fun, though the symbol-removal idea in a scatter pays format is an interesting direction.
