Gargantoonz: Slot Overview
Everyone’s favourite aliens return in Gargantoonz, an online slot from software provider Play’n GO and the latest entry in the studio’s well-known Garga series. Sure, your top alien might be E.T. or Yoda, but you know what we mean. Here, the familiar formula gets a fresh spin, piling a stack of modifiers onto the grid as the extraterrestrial chaos builds, before the three-eyed Gargantoonz steps in to (hopefully) work its magic. Play’n GO has already delivered plenty of ‘toonz’ action, from the breakout original Reactoonz to Reactoonz 2, Dr Toonz, and Gigantoonz—so what’s lined up this time?
Gargantoonz is set in space, as most of the connected games in the series have been. The notable outlier was Dr Toonz, which swapped deep space for the doctor’s lab. Visually, the quality has remained consistently strong across the line-up, even with Reactoonz launching 6 years earlier. Gargantoonz may look a touch more polished—maybe that’s just perception—but do the Toonz seem a little sharper? Do the stars sparkle a bit more? Either way, it’s not the main point. These games live and die by their addictive mechanics, and Gargantoonz can definitely deliver on that front. The retro synth soundtrack is a nice bonus as well.
Using the plus and minus buttons on the menu bar, players can set a stake of 10 c to $/€100 per drop, with no extra ante bets or feature buys to consider. The action plays out on a 7×7 game grid, where a win lands when at least 5 identical symbols connect in vertically or horizontally adjacent positions. Winning symbols are blasted off the grid, and new ones fall into place. These Cascades keep going until no further wins appear, and they’re central to how Gargantoonz plays. With a highly volatile math model, Gargantoonz comes with a default return to player of 96.2%.
The lower-paying symbols are the one-eyed creatures (5 of them), while the higher pays are made up of 5 two-eyed critters. A 5-symbol cluster win returns 0.1 to 1 times the bet, ramping up dramatically to 20x to 1,500x the bet for an 18+ sized winning cluster. Wilds—when they show up, as explained shortly—can replace any symbol, helping to form or expand winning clusters.
Gargantoonz: Slot Features

On the features front, Gargantoonz is loaded with Fluctuation, Discharge, the Experiment Charger, Gamma Ray Bursts, Black Hole, Supernova, Gargantoon Charger, and… Gargantoonz.
Fluctuation
Each round, a one-eyed symbol type is randomly chosen to fluctuate. If fluctuating symbols produce a win, then 1 to 2 Quantum Wilds land in any positions where symbols were removed.
Discharge
On any non-winning round, 4 to 8 Quantum Wilds can randomly be added to the grid.
Experiment Charger
When no experiments are active, any winning clusters charge the charger. The charger fills after 20 symbols have contributed. Once fully charged, an experiment is picked at random after cascades finish. If an experiment succeeds, another one begins, continuing until all 3 are completed. If an experiment fails, the experiment sequence ends. When an experiment starts, unique wilds are placed onto the grid, and any wilds already present transform into that same wild type. While an experiment is running, only the wilds return charge to the experiment charger using their symbol values. In this phase, 40 symbols are needed to charge the charger, and 40 additional symbols overcharge it, increasing the Gargantoonz multiplier by +1.

Experiments
The available experiments are:
- Gamma Ray Burst – 7 to 9 wilds are added to the grid. Winning wilds count how many symbols are in their clusters before removing and counting every instance of the same symbols. Any additionally removed symbols are only counted once, even if multiple winning clusters share the same symbol type. After counting, the wilds exit the grid and charge the charger before the cascade.
- Black Hole – 4 to 6 wilds are added to the grid. Winning wilds count the symbols in their clusters and stay on the grid while wins continue. When cascades finish, wilds gather adjacent symbols and then leave to charge the experiment charger. Symbols removed by an experiment wild are counted once. If 3 or more wilds appear in the same cluster, they trigger their effect instantly, leave the grid, and charge the charger rather than remaining in place.
- Supernova – 3 to 5 wilds are added to the grid. Winning wilds count the symbols in their clusters, remain on the grid if there are wins, and shift one position diagonally on each cascade when possible, though they cannot intersect. When cascades end, wilds travel 8 steps in any available direction, collecting symbols along their route, then leave to charge the charger. If 3 or more wilds are in the same cluster, they trigger their effect immediately, leave the grid and charge the charger instead of staying on the grid.
Gargantoon Charger
Every successful experiment powers up the Gargantoon charger, evolving the Gargantoon. The charger starts with a multiplier of x1, and each overcharged experiment increases it by +1. A multiplier of x1, x2, x3, or x4 may be applied to the feature. If all 3 experiments succeed, the Gargantoonz feature triggers. This feature unfolds in 3 steps. Eight 1×1 Gargantoon Wilds appear on the grid and remain there, ready to merge if they take part in any win. The 1×1 Gargantoon Wilds merge into two 2×2 Gargantoon Wilds, and then the 2×2 Gargantoon Wilds merge into a 3×3 Gargantoon Wild. This occurs after wins are paid but before the next cascade begins. Gargantoon Wilds arrive with the relevant multiplier, though only one multiplier is applied to a win when there are more than 1 Gargantoon Wilds in a cluster.

Gargantoonz: Slot Verdict
It was good to have the Toonz back, though after seeing a few sequels and spin-offs in the franchise not quite hit the mark, expectations for Gargantoonz weren’t exactly through the roof. What came next was an enjoyable cluster-grid slot with some clever additions, but it didn’t land the same knockout impact the original Reactoonz delivered. That doesn’t mean Gargantoonz is a poor game—far from it. The pace is smooth, the charm is strong, and the features (or “experiments,” as they’re often framed) can pull off some genuinely fun moves. The suspense of waiting to see what the Gargantoon might do kept building as the session went on, maintaining interest through the close calls and near-misses, so when it finally arrived, it felt like time to launch into the far edges of the galaxy.
When it finally appeared—he, she, it—the moment itself was a quick burst of merging from small, to medium, to the largest final form. It was fine. It just wasn’t the huge second-stage afterburner moment it seemed like it might be, and that feeling is a decent summary of Gargantoonz overall. There’s lots of build-up and plenty of experimenting, but the payoff can often feel a bit deflating. Perhaps, even while trying to stay neutral going in, some hidden expectations still weren’t met. Charging a charger is the core routine in games like this, all in the hope of letting the features run riot across the grid. If you’re jumping into Gargantoonz, it’s worth being ready for anti-climaxes after what can be a frustratingly slow build. On the flip side, Gargantoonz offers the second-highest potential in the bunch (after Dr Toonz) at 7,000x the bet (though many within the community have started to question the advertised potential of Play’n GO slots).
So, while Gargantoonz isn’t a genre-shaping moment like its older sibling, there’s still solid grid-slot entertainment here. You could argue Play’n GO has taken a safer route, but Toonz fans should still find plenty to enjoy—even if it’s not quite the peak fun the franchise has reached before.
