FruitPunk: Slot Overview
One way to pick up an instrument—say, the guitar—is to grab some tablature and play along with your favourite songs. Or if you want to learn to draw, you might study your favourite comic books and try recreating the pictures with a pencil and a rubber. Does the same idea apply to online slots, where a studio takes inspiration from the mechanics and features it enjoys in other games? Possibly. And while it’s hard to label software provider Yggdrasil Gaming as a newcomer, the studio clearly seems to have admired Pragmatic Play’s hit slot Sugar Rush and produced something that plays in almost the exact same way.
Sugar Rush leaned fully into sweets, so as a kind of disguise, FruitPunk heads in the opposite direction with a lineup of healthier foods. Rather than a fruit-filled fairytale setting, though, FruitPunk drops you into a neon Miami vibe of hip hop, palm trees, and pink flamingos. The base game feels a bit like hanging around the hotel before racing off to the casino for the free spins round. Odd comparison, sure—but it’s entertaining and definitely different.

FruitPunk is a highly volatile slot that runs on a 7×7 gaming area. It comes with two RTP options: 94% and an even less appealing 90.5% version, although the game info lists a fairly strong hit frequency of 54.1%. Bets range from 20c to $/€70 per spin, and there’s also a notably budget-friendly feature buy on offer.
Every paytable symbol awards wins by forming a cluster of 5 or more that are matching, connected horizontally or vertically. The avalanche mechanic removes winning symbols, leaving spaces that are filled as new symbols drop in. Avalanches keep chaining as long as fresh wins continue to land. FruitPunk’s paying symbols include bananas, limes, strawberries, bell packs, cherry juice boxes, bar packets, and cans of 7. Clusters of 5 matching symbols pay 0.2x to 1x, rising to 20x to 150x for 15+ OAK. Wilds are not included in FruitPunk.
FruitPunk: Slot Features

Alongside its avalanche wins, FruitPunk adds increasing multipliers tied to specific grid positions, plus a free spins round and a feature buy option.
Multipliers
Whenever a winning symbol disappears, it highlights the position it occupied. If another winning symbol explodes on that same spot, a multiplier of x2 is placed there, doubling each time a new symbol explodes, up to x128. Any winning combinations that land on that position receive the multiplier. If a winning cluster contains more than one multiplier, the multipliers are combined and then applied to the payout. In the base game, all highlighted multiplier positions are cleared on the following spin.
Free Spins
Landing 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 scatters anywhere on the grid awards 10, 12, 15, 20, or 30 free spins, respectively. During free spins, highlighted positions and their multipliers remain in place till the round ends. Hitting 3 or more scatters awards the same number of free spins as when triggering the feature from the base game.
Feature Buy
You can purchase the free spins round from the base game for 34x the bet. On purchase, 3-7 scatters land at random, and the RTP matches what you get in standard play.

FruitPunk: Slot Verdict
The neon fruit styling may mislead some players at first, but anyone who’s spent time with Sugar Rush—and plenty have—will quickly spot how closely this mirrors the Pragmatic Play title. It was still a slight surprise to see Yggdrasil Gaming follow the candy game’s blueprint so faithfully. Not visually, of course. FruitPunk swaps sweets for healthy foods, and its futuristic setting is worlds apart from the pink, pastel, candy-coated land of Sugar Rush. But once it becomes obvious that the goal is to build clusters on the same grid positions to keep doubling multipliers, the déjà vu is immediate.
That said, if a developer is going to borrow an idea, it might as well be a strong one, and Sugar Rush didn’t become as popular as it did with weak gameplay. There’s something genuinely satisfying about the way clusters mark positions and then double multipliers as avalanches keep landing on the same squares. And the excitement ramps up in free spins when large parts of the grid get lit up with multiplier values—especially knowing they won’t be wiped away until the feature ends. It’s no accident that Pragmatic Play followed it with Sugar Rush Xmas, Sugar Rush 1000, and the upcoming Sugar Rush Bonanza.
What takes the edge off FruitPunk’s appeal is that this formula has already been done—more than once—in slots offering noticeably higher max RTPs. Still, if you’re completely over candy-themed games but still crave the avalanching, highlighted win positions, and rising multipliers combination, or you’re drawn in by the feature buy cost, FruitPunk can work as a fun change of flavour. The max win is also higher than the original Sugar Rush release, at 7,000x, though players chasing this style of gameplay will likely find better options elsewhere.
