Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways: Review
The original Fishin’ Frenzy is a fairly straightforward 10-payline slot that you can still find at a handful of selected casinos, with Videoslots being one of them. The game was created by Australian studio Reel Time Gaming and has been licensed out to both Merkur and Blueprint Gaming. After being put through the Megaways-O-Tron, it’s ready to hit the water again, so dig out the maggots and grab your fishing gear ya’ll.
In many ways, the developers have kept things faithful to the classic, but under the surface there’s a completely different engine running the show. With another 15,615 possible ways to win added in, the game basically goes from fishing with grandpa in his canoe to hanging out with El Chapo on his Yacht in the Mexican Gulf. Alright, we’re pushing it a bit—but you get the idea. Gameplay-wise, though, it remains just as easy to pick up as before. Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways features 6-reels and up to 15,625 ways to win. Available on all devices with stakes ranging from 0.10 to 10€ per spin, you’ll head out to sea to try and hook some cash.
It’s a no-frills slot that looks a little worn visually, but that’s also part of its appeal. With a retro vibe and the distinctive reel-spinning sound effects you’d usually associate with Novomatic slots, you’ll be looking at an ocean backdrop with the reel set placed below the surface. On the reels you’ll find the usual 10 to A royals along with tackle boxes, life belts and fishing rods. The highest regular symbol is the seagull, paying 200 times your stake for 5 on a payline.
The fisherman acts as the wild, substituting for every symbol except the scatter. You’ll also spot special fish symbols that can award 1, 3, 5 and 10 times your stake when you land 3, 4, 5 or 6 respectively. These fish symbols become especially important during the free spins feature, as you’ll see.
Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways: Features

As with many Blueprint Megaways slots, Fishin’ Frenzy includes a bonus buy option. By paying 100 times your stake, you’re guaranteed to activate the Free Spins. If you’d rather trigger it naturally, keep an eye out for the fishing boat scatter—landing 3, 4, 5 or 6 anywhere on the reels awards 10, 15, 25 or 50 free games respectively.
With a surprisingly catchy tune playing in the background (arguably the highlight of the bonus), the core concept is similar to the base game, but with one major advantage. Those special fish symbols? Each one carries a cash value. When the fisherman lands, he’ll reel in any special fish symbols showing on the reels to collect their cash prizes. Each individual fish can pay up to 5o times your stake. On top of that, extra fishermen multiply the haul—land 5 fishermen and each cash prize will be collected 5 times. If fortune really smiles on you, you could even hit a 10,000x sea monster.
Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways: Verdict
This is a straightforward slot with simple cartoon-style graphics and equally uncomplicated gameplay. That isn’t automatically a downside, since some of the best games out there are even more basic than this. Still, this one can feel a bit flat, tired and dated, and at times it’s like staring at a children’s book about fishing. The base game is also rather uneventful, and you mostly end up waiting for the free spins to arrive.
Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways does offer plenty of potential, even if it isn’t as explosive as we’d hoped. Instead, the bonus round tends to be about collecting—at least for the most part—small to medium cash prizes and gradually building your total. It’s not a title we’d save as a personal favourite, but if you’re after some simple Megaways action, it does the job.
