Eye of Medusa: Slot Overview

She may be a terrifying figure in legend, yet the notorious Gorgon Medusa has enjoyed a real comeback in online gambling, and the serpent-haired icon shows up on slots all the time. Software provider Hacksaw Gaming is the latest studio to craft a game around the Ancient Greek myth. In Eye of Medusa, the star of the show doesn’t literally turn anyone to stone; instead, she petrifies symbols, stacks them along the bottom of the grid, and then applies a multiplier to the values that are revealed. If you’re feeling daring, come along as we see whether getting “stoned” has never paid off more—or if you should flee while you can…

Stepping into Medusa’s realm should be pure nightmare fuel, but Eye of Medusa is anything but frightening. Visually, it’s fairly restrained for better or worse, lacking both the almost comically cartoony style and the darker, slightly unsettling vibe that Hacksaw Gaming slots often lean into. Perseus stands to one side of the screen, with Medusa on the other—snakes and all, though not quite as overrun as she’s often portrayed. It’s a decent scene: the art has a faint Asterix-like Ancient World flavor that’s easy on the eye, though after the first look, Eye of Medusa didn’t really spark a strong reaction in either direction.

A 5×5 grid is where Eye of Medusa’s symbol play unfolds, forming wins from the leftmost side across with 3,125 ways to win. Players adjust their stake using the up/down arrows, choosing anywhere from 10 c to $/€100. At its best, the RTP reaches 96.2%, and the math model volatility is medium.

On the paytable, the lower end is made up of 10-A card ranks, followed by five better-paying character symbols. A five-of-a-kind returns 0.3x to 0.5x with royals, or 0.8x to 4x when it’s a premium symbol combo.

Eye of Medusa: Slot Features

Eye of Medusa includes super cascades, Medusa symbols, Petrified symbols, a Snakes & Stones bonus, a Gorgon’s Gold bonus, and feature buys.

Super Cascades

Super cascades remove winning symbols and all regular pay symbols of the same type as the winning combination from the reels, allowing fresh symbols to fall into the cleared positions.

Medusa Symbols

Medusa symbols act as wild substitutes for all regular paying symbols, and they appear in either Silver or Gold form. When a low pay symbol win hits while a Medusa is on the grid, the Medusa symbol drops to the bottom of the reels and stays there until the spin ends. All other non-Petrified symbols are removed, then new symbols drop down to fill the gaps. This repeats until no further wins land.

Petrified Symbols

When a high-pay win lands with a Medusa symbol, the winning symbols and Medusa turn to stone and drop to the bottom of the grid. Everything else is cleared away, and new symbols fall in. After the chain finishes, each Petrified symbol reveals a value Bronze (0.2x–4x), Silver (5x–20x), or Gold (25x–500x). Then Medusa takes over: Silver Medusa multiplies the total by 1x–4x, Gold by 5x–20x. Petrified symbol values are added together, multiplied by the Medusa Multiplier, and the resulting total is paid out.

Snakes & Stones

10 or 12 Snakes & Stones free spins are triggered when 3 or 4 FS scatters, respectively, land in the base game. This bonus comes with an increased chance of landing Medusa symbols with higher multipliers. On top of that, in this feature and the next one, landing 2 or 3 scatters grants an extra +2 or +4 free spins, respectively.

Gorgon’s Gold

Landing 5 scatters in the base game activates 12 free spins in the Gorgon’s Gold bonus. Here, whenever a Medusa symbol activates, its multiplier becomes the minimum for all future Medusa symbols. If a higher multiplier shows up later, that minimum is updated.

Feature Buy

The feature buy menu includes BonusHunt FeatureSpins for 3x the bet, making each spin 5 times more likely to trigger a bonus game. For 50x the bet, players can purchase a spin that guarantees 1 Medusa symbol and a minimum of 1x on the Petrified symbols. Snakes & Stones is available for 100x, while Gorgon’s Gold costs 200x.

Eye of Medusa: Slot Verdict

Eye of Medusa felt oddly familiar, yet if it’s a reskin, the original sits just beyond reach—like a dream that slips away the moment you wake, leaving only a hazy sense that you’ve seen it before. Still, it’s Medusa time. One of the smarter touches is how Hacksaw Gaming ties the myth directly into the mechanics: Medusa symbols petrify winning premium symbols into Petrified symbols, which then stack at the bottom of the reels. The larger that stack becomes, the better, because once values are revealed on each Petrified symbol, Medusa multiplies the combined win.

For a studio known for leaning hard on wild multipliers or wild multiplier reels to boost line hits, this approach feels comparatively fresh. The ways-to-win setup helps pull in premium wins, and the fact that any premium type can be Petrified—so more than one type in a single spin is possible—also helps when it comes to building up reels full of Petrified symbols. It was also a plus that once BonusHunt FeatureSpins were running, bonus rounds seemed to trigger fairly often. If we’re brainstorming, the game might have benefited from one more even higher free spins round. Carrying the highest achieved multiplier forward to new Medusa symbols works well, but a hidden bonus—perhaps one where Medusa multipliers were added into a persistent total multiplier that then applied to new Medusa symbols—could have been a fun extra layer.

Wishful thinking costs nothing, and in any case, Eye of Medusa can petrify wins up to 10,000x the stake with the tools it already provides, which is impressive. In the end, Eye of Medusa felt a touch underpowered next to Hacksaw Gaming’s top-tier releases, but it still has a few crafty tricks ready for players lucky enough to get the Gorgon on their side.
