Epic Dreams: Slot Overview

Ask people to name their favourite animal and you’ll usually hear dogs, cats, dolphins, tigers, or horses. So it’s a bit unexpected to see sloths gaining ground in online slots. They’re not everywhere, but they’ve popped up in titles like ELK Studios’ Tropicool 2 and Hula Balua, plus Hacksaw’s Frank’s Farm. Another notable sloth is Relax Gaming’s playful mascot Chip, who previously starred in Sloth Tumble and now returns for a second run in the online slot Epic Dreams.

Last time we saw Chip, he was essentially running a jungle stand selling square fruit. In Epic Dreams, the hard-working sloth is focused on either building upward and/or digging downward, with players choosing which way the action goes once the bonus round is triggered. During the base game, gameplay moves downward on the grid, while a rustic woodland theme park sits in the background. It’s easy to see the appeal of sloths here—Chip’s face is parked beside the reels, reacting and celebrating at key moments, giving Epic Dreams a friendly feel, even if it leans a little childish.

From a practical standpoint, Epic Dreams offers stakes from 10 c or as high as $/€200. Pressing spin drops active symbols and stone block symbols onto a 6-reel grid, delivering up to 117,649 ways to win with payouts calculated left to right starting from the leftmost reel. When playing in the standard way, Epic Dreams runs at an RTP of 96.1%, though the return rises when purchasing bonus rounds, and the math model is highly volatile.

The lower-value symbols are clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades, paying 0.4x the bet for a 6 matching card suit winning way. After that come the purple, green, yellow, and red gems as mid-tier icons, worth 0.8 to 1.5 times the bet for 6 OAK, with Chip topping the paytable at 4x the bet for six. If wild symbols appear, they can substitute for any regular paying symbol.

Epic Dreams: Slot Features

Every spin begins with 4 rows of stone block symbols set along the bottom of the grid. Each stone block row includes one non-stone block position, such as coins, which pay out their value once destroyed. Any winning symbols, along with stone block symbols located in the same row as those winning symbols, are destroyed and disappear. The remaining symbols then drop down, with new symbols falling into the empty spaces for another shot at a win. This repeats until no further wins are created.

Bonus Pick

When all stone block symbols have been cleared by the end of a spin, the Bonus Pick is triggered. If, during that spin, the bottom row includes Super Bonus stone block symbols, breaking them activates the Super Bonus Pick instead. In Bonus Pick, players choose whether to launch the Dig Bonus or the Build Bonus. With Super Bonus Pick, players select the super version of the same two options.

Dig Bonus

This mode opens with 5 free spins, and each third stone block row destroyed uncovers a level row, granting +1 free spin. At the start of each spin, any stone block rows from the previous spin are kept. Additional stone block rows are then added, meaning there are 4 for every free spin. After 50 stone block rows have been destroyed, the 5,000x stone block row is revealed and the max win is paid, which effectively ends the feature. Stone block rows can include Treasure Chests, which apply the following effects when destroyed:

  • Coin Add – adds 1 to 3 coins to stone blocks.
  • Upgrade – upgrades the value of 1 to 3 existing coins.
  • Wild Add – adds a wild symbol to the open position of 1 to 3 stone block rows.

Treasure chests can also hold up to 3 Super Orbs. Collecting 3 Super Orbs upgrades the round to the Super Bonus, awarding +5 free spins and awarding +2 free spins whenever a level row is cleared. If a Treasure Chest delivers the third Super Orb, it won’t reveal a feature. In the Super Dig Bonus, players begin with 10 free spins, and every third stone block row destroyed reveals a level row which awards +2 free spins. Once the upgrade happens, no additional Super Orbs can appear.

Build Bonus

The Build Bonus begins with 3 rounds, and each round features a drop of 3 symbols. Wins are created by filling a row with any symbol. Each symbol that completes the row pays as a 3 OAK win. Whenever a win lands, the round counter resets to 3. Symbols fall into random columns and settle in the bottom most position. Beside the grid sits a multiplier ladder. It starts at x1 and increases by +1 each time a row is filled. Any row payout is multiplied by the current multiplier. Coins are updated to their final value after landing. The ladder’s peak is reached once 50 rows are filled, awarding the max win of 5,000x the bet. Coin symbols or Treasure Chests can drop in place of standard pay symbols. Coin symbols pay their value when they are included in a win. Treasure Chests open right away and reveal one of the following:

  • Coin Add – initiates a drop where only coin symbols drop. This does not reduce the round counter.
  • Filler – fills 1 to 3 rows with random symbols, triggering wins.
  • +1 Drop – future spins drop 1 additional symbol per round.

Treasure chests may also contain up to 3 Super Orbs. Collecting 3 Super Orbs upgrades the bonus to the Super Bonus version, immediately resetting the round counter to 4, and for the rest of the bonus, the counter resets to 4 rather than 3. After an upgrade, no more Orbs appear. When a Treasure Chest awards the third Super Orb, it will not reveal a feature.

Buy Bonus

Using the buy bonus option, players can purchase the regular Bonus Pick for 50x the bet or the Super Bonus Pick for 250x the bet. Both options come with an RTP of 96.5%.

Epic Dreams: Slot Verdict

Chip isn’t the only link between the two games—smashing obstacles is another shared idea. That said, Sloth Tumble revolved around breaking wooden (and sometimes ice) blockers, while Epic Dreams focuses on cracking stone block symbols. Beyond the change in materials, Epic Dreams also plays very differently from its predecessor. For anyone who tracks the stats, the standout shift is the dramatic drop in top-end potential, from 100,000x in Sloth Tumble down to a much more grounded 5,000x in Epic Dreams. It feels like the two titles are aiming for different outcomes—one leans toward volume, while the other chases those outrageous monster unicorn results, which have actually happened IRL.

Ignoring max win comparisons, the overall fun factor felt fairly similar, with neither slot clearly outclassing the other. Epic Dreams also brought back vibes of Relax Gaming’s TNT Tumble, and it even hinted at a half-remembered “rising levels” style game whose name stayed frustratingly out of reach. Not Steam Tower, something else… still no luck. Either way, if you enjoy heading downward to dig or pushing upward to build, Epic Dreams delivers both directions through the Bonus Pick/Super Bonus Pick choices.

When Chip gets into a rhythm of smashing and stacking, there’s some solid entertainment to be had. But with such a reduced win ceiling, Epic Dreams is less of a headline-grabber, and some players may find the mechanics a touch gimmicky, while the childlike presentation could be a turn-off for certain gamblers.
