Emerald Infinity Reels: Slot Overview

Following an outstanding 2020, Relax Gaming opened the next year with a pair of releases built around licensed game engines. The first was Kluster Krystals using BTG’s Megaclusters; this time it’s Emerald Infinity Reels powered by ReelPlay’s trademark mechanic. With Infinity Reels showing up more and more, and Irish-themed slots being everywhere, it was only a matter of time before the two were combined. Few players, though, would have guessed Relax Gaming would be the studio to do it.

Relax Gaming is known for delivering vivid, inventive concepts set in gorgeous environments, and Emerald Infinity Reels proves they can lean on a more familiar backdrop just as comfortably. Here, play unfolds on a 3×4 sized Infinity Reels-driven grid that behaves differently to previous versions of the mechanic. For starters, the display stays fixed; it doesn’t scroll to the right when extra reels would normally appear. In fact, Emerald Infinity Reels doesn’t truly add new reels at all. That said, it still performs an infinity-style action whenever wins land. Beyond this tweak, much of Emerald Infinity Reels feels fairly standard, from the luminous green Irish forest setting to the mellow Celtic soundtrack.

The dependable theme is matched by equally dependable numbers, including a theoretical return of 96.60% and medium/high volatility. One thing to brace for in Emerald Infinity Reels is an unexpectedly large amount of dead spins. Yes, a single hit can ignite an extended winning run, but until that spark arrives you may endure long stretches of very little. With the downtime combined with the way wins accumulate, the experience can be aggravating at times. Maybe that’s exactly why Relax paired it with such a calming soundtrack. Stakes run from 10 p/c to $/€100 per spin, and it plays smoothly on any device.

Playable from 10 p/c to $/€100 per spin, players are rewarded for each symbol they gather, rather than for standard 3+ symbol combinations. The game includes only six paying symbols: three coloured gems paying 0.4 to 0.6 times the bet, plus three higher-value icons – a pipe, a mug, and a leprechaun. Each collected premium symbol pays 1, 1.5, or 3 times the bet. One last note for now: there is no wild symbol available at any point in the game.

Emerald Infinity Reels: Slot Features

To score in Emerald Infinity Reels, matching symbols must land across all three reels. When they do, you receive a Lucky Respin. The grid then shifts everything one reel to the left, while winning symbols from reel 1 are banked and the third reel is respun. If another winning symbol lands during the respin, the cycle continues until no additional winning symbols appear. x2 multiplier symbols, along with bonus symbols, also extend the sequence. When x2 multiplier symbols are collected, they double the amount of symbols stored in the meter. Once a spin sequence finishes in the base game, all stored symbols are cleared away.

Landing 3 or more bonus symbols during a sequence awards 12 free spins plus 2 extra for every scatter beyond the third. In free spins, collected symbols remain stored for the entire feature instead of being removed between spins. If an x2 multiplier symbol is collected during free spins, it doubles the total number of all collected symbols up to that moment. Hitting a few x2 symbols here can dramatically lift the final payout. Lastly, collecting 3 or more bonus symbols in a respin sequence retriggers the feature.

Emerald Infinity Reels: Slot Verdict

Emerald Infinity Reels somehow feels slightly fresh for this format while also being thoroughly generic. The first time a win lands, it can be surprising because no new reels appear and there’s no scrolling – it’ll be interesting to see how Infinity Reels purists react to that adjustment. From a neutral standpoint, Relax’s take is neither better nor worse than earlier uses of the system. It’s simply another variation that nudges the engine in a slightly different direction.

The collection-based approach takes some adjustment. Because symbols that aren’t collected don’t matter, it can initially feel like you’re being denied larger combinations. After you’ve seen a few wins, the logic becomes clearer, but it can still be irritating. That’s especially true because bonus symbols follow the same rules. You might see three bonus symbols on the grid, but if they aren’t all pushed off and collected – no free spins. Once the process clicks, though, it adds a quasi video-game vibe that’s genuinely rewarding when symbol collections stack into a solid payout. Free spins also benefit nicely since collected symbols stay in the meter throughout. A bit of luck with a few x2 multipliers can make the total jump fast.

In the end, Emerald Infinity Reels does steer the mechanic in a modestly new direction, so credit to Relax for trying something different. Even so, the game would have stood out more if the studio had paired those ideas with a more distinctive theme. Still, with Infinity Reels continuing to grow in popularity, it was inevitable that someone would turn it into an Irish spectacle sooner or later, especially given how well the theme performs in the UK. Relax simply got there before the competition.
