When we put together the sneak preview, we honestly weren’t all that hyped about Easter Island. The main reason was the game’s medium volatility rating. It simply didn’t offer the kind of wild upside we usually want from slots.
That said, what it doesn’t deliver in maximum potential, it more than makes up for in pure entertainment. And really, how enjoyable would it be if every single game was a mega high-potential beast—especially when those huge wins are rare to hit anyway. We also need solid wagering-friendly games, don’t we?
When we launched the game, we weren’t expecting much, which is exactly why the intro caught us off guard. It’s genuinely one of the strangest slot moments we’ve experienced. You’ll need to watch the video to see what we mean.
Easter Island is a light-hearted slot, and the two animated Moai stones standing beside the game table make it stand out, to say the least! Yggdrasil have done an excellent job, delivering a visually impressive game with surprisingly strong mechanics.
The Gameplay
We’ll keep this brief, and then you can check out the video.
The base game consists of 5 reels, 3 rows and 27 paylines. If you hit a winning combination on reel 1-3, you’ll receive a respin with additional copies of the winning symbols added to boost your chances of landing a bigger win on the re-spin. A 4-of-a-kind win triggers a 5 reel tall respin (65 paylines), and a 5-of-a-kind win triggers a 7 reel tall respin (103 paylines). Naturally, this raises the number of paylines and therefore the max win.
There is a Wild symbol that appears on reel 2 and 4. Wilds that land on winning spins become sticky and expand to cover the full reel. This also means the Wild carries over into the expanded respin if one is activated.
That’s essentially the whole setup. There’s no traditional bonus in this game, but we never felt like anything was missing. With the way this slot is designed, it keeps you engaged and entertained with tense moments and animated touches that are sure to put a smile on your face.
Conclusion
We played for close to an hour, and throughout that session it did a great job of staying balanced while offering some very solid wagering. We even finished with a respectable profit. It can definitely pay nicely—no question—if you manage to land a full screen or nearly a full screen of the high-value symbols, but don’t go in expecting any super wins.
Don’t Miss
Make sure you also try the sequel, Easter Island 2, where the quirky characters return for another adventure in a game featuring 6-reels and a 2,500 times the bet max win jackpot.
