Dwarven Gems Megaways: Slot Overview
If you could stomach life far below the surface, tucked away inside a mountain, being a dwarf might actually suit you. You’d roll out of bed, spend the morning smashing rock outside your home, turn up gems or gold, then maybe do some forging later on. There’s no shortage of feasts, ale, and trips topside to trade with other races or deal with goblins. All in all, it’s a pretty solid way to live. That rugged setting is what developer Iron Dog Studios uses as the stage for Dwarven Gems Megaways, a slot packed with tumbles, Dwarven Bombs, free spins, and progressive multipliers.
In terms of style, these dwarves aren’t the classic fantasy type. There’s a noticeable Steampunk vibe, with some of the lads sporting augmetics—likely handy for seeing in the dark or swinging harder at stone. Visually, Dwarven Gems can feel a bit muted, at least in the base game, where a flat grey rock wall sits behind the action. The layout uses 6 main reels, holding 2-7 symbols each, plus an upper 4 symbol reel, delivering up to 200,704 ways to win. Audio-wise, it does better: a choral score mixed with occasional mining sounds adds tension and gives the game a weighty fantasy atmosphere.
True to the grumpy dwarf stereotype, the experience is highly volatile—slow and uneventful one moment, then suddenly explosive the next. The default RTP is a highlight, and even with the various buy options (where available), Dwarven Gems keeps a theoretical return of 96.7% across the board. It runs smoothly on any device, with bets available from 10 p/c to $/€20 per spin.
Wins in Dwarven Gems Megaways are formed when matching symbols land next to each other starting from the first reel – at least two of the top premiums are needed, while three of every other symbol are required. There are eleven standard pay symbols, beginning with low-value 9-A card ranks, then moving up to lanterns and hammers in the mid range. The premium tier is made up of four dwarven miners, where six of a kind pays 2.5 to 5 times the stake. In addition, wilds help by substituting for any regular paying symbol. They can land on reels 2-6 in the base game or free spin, but they never appear on the top horizontal reel.
Dwarven Gems Megaways: Slot Features
To give your balance a boost, you’ll get help from the dwarf standing to the left of the reels, who regularly hurls dynamite into the action. Alongside this Dwarven Bomb feature, the game also includes free spins with progressive multipliers and a tumble mechanic that runs throughout every stage.
The tumble mechanic removes winning symbols from the reels when they connect, letting the remaining symbols drop down to fill the empty spaces. If the new layout creates another win, it pays, explodes, and the symbols above fall again to cover the gaps. This chain continues until no further winning ways are created.
The Dwarven Bomb feature activates when a Dwarven Bomb symbol lands on the top horizontal reel. This symbol works as a sticky wild, substituting for all pay symbols. Once the winning tumbles involving the bomb symbol are complete, the Dwarven Bomb symbol explodes. After that, the dwarf at the side throws dynamite onto the grid, wiping out 1 random pay symbol from each vertical reel, plus 2 extra random symbols.
A green gem scatter symbol can appear on vertical reels 2-5. Hitting 4 of them grants a spin of the bonus wheel, which awards 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, or 11 free spins. During free spins, a win multiplier is active, beginning at x1 and increasing by +1 after each tumble.
Additionally, in free spins, Power Gem symbols can land on the top horizontal reel, functioning as wild and scatter. A Power Gem adds 2-4 wilds to reels 2-4. Alternatively, if 2 Power Gems land, wilds may also be added to reel 5. Each Power Gem also awards +2 free spins.
Another free spins mechanic is the Lucky Last Spin. If your final free spin results in a win, you’re granted an extra Lucky Last Spin. If that Lucky Last Spin also wins, the process repeats until a non-winning final spin occurs.
If bonus buys are available where you play, Dwarven Gems Megaways offers multiple choices at different price points. Spending 200x the bet buys a bonus wheel spin, awarding 6-11 free spins. Alternatively, paying 45x, 150x, or 300x the bet awards 7, 9, or 11 free spins, respectively. For higher rollers, 400x or 500x the bet purchases 15 or 20 free spins with a Bonus Upgrader. The Bonus Upgrader boosts how often the Power Gems or Dwarven Bomb symbols appear.
Dwarven Gems Megaways: Slot Verdict
At first glance, Dwarven Gems Megaways doesn’t immediately impress, mainly because of its dim, grey, and gloomy presentation. Thankfully, the audio work pulls its weight with an epic soundtrack. It brings to mind that moment in The Hobbit at Bilbo’s home when the guests begin harmonising the Misty Mountain song after the meal. Even so, the opening impression isn’t especially strong, though small touches like the Steampunk elements add a bit of interest. The gameplay is enjoyable, largely because Dwarven Gems sticks closely to the familiar Megaways formula—and that’s usually a safe approach unless a studio really messes it up.
The newer additions are where the fun comes in. Over a typical run of 100 spins, Dwarven Bombs tended to show up several times, extending tumble chains and sometimes helping stitch together longer winning ways. Power Gems also regularly made free spins feel more rewarding, adding extra spins and dropping in additional wilds that generally helped. The strongest outcomes came from the two priciest bonus buy options, which are appealing thanks to the Bonus Upgrader. It did appear to have a significant effect, though it certainly didn’t ensure profit—or even a break-even result—and staking 400-500x the bet is a hefty outlay.
Overall, Dwarven Gems Megaways was a solid and enjoyable test, though it’s not exactly a must-play. It follows the standard playbook, but the extra features may be worth a look—especially for players comfortable with larger bonus buys. In the end, Dwarven Gems delivers respectable action, but it’s still eclipsed by stronger titles both within the mining theme and beyond it.
