Dungeons and Diamonds: Slot Overview

Ever since 1974, groups of role-players have gathered around Dungeons & Dragons, rolling dice to build heroes, fight monsters, and tackle quests powered largely by imagination. Skirting the obvious with a bit of name-twisting is Dungeons and Diamonds, a fantasy-themed online slot aimed at players seeking adventure, created by Microgaming partner PearFiction Studios. So far, the PearFiction titles we’ve tried, including Squelin’ Riches and Blazing Mammoth, have generally looked fine but often felt a little safe in the gameplay department. Does Dungeons and Diamonds change that pattern?

From the outset, it doesn’t really look like it. Part of that is the familiar layout: jackpots sitting beside a gold-trimmed reel frame is something we’ve seen so often it’s starting to feel like PearFiction’s calling card. Presentation-wise, Dungeons and Diamonds is polished, with a bright, glossy finish reminiscent of Pragmatic Play’s style. The action takes place in a shadowy, fog-filled cavern where a dragon naps atop a heap of treasure. It’s cleanly illustrated, though the scene is so well-worn—across tabletop adventures, novels, films, and plenty of slots—that it doesn’t quite feel fresh.

Mechanically, Dungeons and Diamonds is a video slot running on a 5×5 grid with 40 fixed paylines. It’s a highly volatile release and offers four different RTP configurations, with 96% as the top option. Wins land with a frequency of 28.28%, paid when three or more identical symbols connect from the leftmost reel. Players can take the adventure on any device and choose stakes ranging from 20 p/c to $/€50 per spin.

PearFiction’s art team has delivered strong-looking symbols for Dungeons and Diamonds. The premium icons are 1×2 character tiles—rangers, warriors, sorceresses, and wizards—each paying 5-10 times the stake for five of a kind. The lower-value symbols are less thrilling, although the four card suit icons are styled to look pricey despite paying just 1-1.5x the bet for a five-symbol line. Wilds can land on every reel and substitute for any standard paying symbol.

Dungeons and Diamonds: Slot Features

The bigger prizes here come via free spins, instant collects, and jackpots. Most of what’s included feels like familiar PearFiction territory (or close variations), so let’s see how it all comes together.

Instant Collect

Gem symbols carry values from 1x to 25x the bet and can appear on reels 1 to 4. When gems land alongside a collect symbol on reel five, the total value of all visible gems is awarded. If a multi collect symbol lands on reel 5, players receive the combined value of the gems in view, then that amount is multiplied by the multi collect symbol’s value. Third, if a respins collect symbol lands on reel 5, the gems become locked in place while the remaining spots respin. The payout is the total value of all gems once the respin ends.

Wicked Wizard Jackpot

Jackpot symbols can also land on reels 1 to 4, and if one appears at the same time as a collect, multiplier collect, or respin collect symbol on reel 5, the Wicked Wizard Jackpot game is activated. Players then pick gem pouches on a separate screen until 3 matching jackpot symbols are uncovered. The jackpots are Mini, Minor, Major, or Grand, paying 50x, 100x, 500x, or 5,000x the bet, respectively. Jackpots are not multiplied by the multiplier collect symbol.

Free Spins

Hitting 3 dragon eye scatter symbols awards 8 Dungeons and Diamonds Free Spins. During this round, extra gem, jackpot, and collect symbols are added to the reels, and the feature can be retriggered.

Dungeons and Diamonds: Slot Verdict

Running a great D&D campaign that keeps a party entertained, tested, and thrilled takes real creativity. Dungeons and Diamonds is perfectly serviceable, but it feels like it could have benefited from PearFiction pushing their ideas further. The sound and visuals are solid and offer a pleasant little break from the everyday, even if the dragon-on-a-gold-hoard scene is straight out of The Hobbit. In gameplay terms, Dungeons and Diamonds does the job, though it might have felt more enchanting if PearFiction had leaned less on their usual feature set. As it stands, Dungeon and Diamonds is fine, yet it also suggests that unless PearFiction moves beyond its comfort zone, it may continue to sit firmly in that mid-tier partner bracket.

For example, we still haven’t played a PearFiction slot that doesn’t include jackpots or hold n’ win/respin mechanics. There’s nothing inherently bad about those features, but repeated use can start to feel stale. Still, the familiar elements are implemented competently here, and having three different collection symbols adds a bit of variety to the instant collect mechanic. Fans of fantasy should also be drawn to Dungeons and Diamonds’ overall look. That said, much of the imagery feels very recognisable too—from the Saruman-like wizard to the dragon eye bonus symbol to the Smaug-style backdrop. At points, the straightforward gameplay and stock fantasy cast seemed to dull each other rather than launch bold adventurers into unknown lands. If you do manage to conquer the virtual boss, payouts can reach up to 5,627x the bet.

Ultimately, Dungeons and Diamonds feels like the kind of slot PearFiction now produces with ease. Players who enjoy dependable mechanics wrapped in a fantasy theme may have fun with the colourful package on offer. For everyone else, there are highlights, but overall it comes across more like a free downloadable PDF scenario than a fully developed campaign sourcebook.
