Dropz: Slot Overview

You may want to book a dentist appointment after a session on this one. Dropz comes from ELK Studios and leans hard into one of the sweetest slot themes around—candy, sugary treats, lollies, whatever you prefer to call them. To keep things from becoming too saccharine, ELK has mixed in a few fruity symbols as well, plus a hefty set of mechanics: Avalanches; symbol unlocks, level upgrades, a progressive win multiplier, and free spins.

Choose a candy setting and, realistically, the game is going to look a lot like Dropz. Anyone who’s played similar titles will recognise the setup—a land packed with sweets, cakes, and doughnuts, with treats everywhere you look. A few of them even have eyes, which is less adorable than it sounds and slightly unsettling, sparking the odd flashback to Chucky or Mr Hopp. The jazzy, 70s-style, symphonic swing soundtrack restores the cheerful mood, though, and Dropz ends up being a pretty tasty treat for both sight and sound.

First up is choosing your stake, with bets running from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin, and the game works on both desktop and mobile devices. In the default base game, Dropz uses a 6×6 sized grid, but only three symbols per reel are live—the remaining spaces are covered by worthless chocolate blocker tiles, which can be cleared via the Avalanche mechanic. Under the hood, Dropz uses a medium/highly volatile model and offers a maximum return to player of 94%.

As symbols fall into the grid, standard ways wins are created when three or more matching symbols land on consecutive reels starting from the left. The four lowest-paying symbols are hard candies in different shapes and colours, followed by lemons, grapes, apples, strawberries, and liquorice ‘7s’. A six-of-a-kind ways win pays 0.25x for the candies, 0.5-5x the bet for the fruit, and 50 times the stake for six 7s. Finally, Wilds and Locked Wilds can appear, substituting for any regular paying symbol to help complete winning ways.

Dropz: Slot Features

Dropz is the sort of slot that can feel a bit bewildering if you jump in without checking the rules first. So, starting at the beginning, the first mechanic is Avalanches, which triggers when a win lands. Winning symbols are removed from the grid, along with any chocolate blocker symbols adjacent to an exploding winning symbol. The gaps are then refilled by new symbols dropping in from above, and the Avalanche sequence stops once no further win appears. If any removed chocolate blocks contained special symbols or features, they are activated.

Special Symbols

One special symbol that can be unlocked is the wild, which substitutes for any normal al pay symbol—standard wilds are cleared by the Avalanche mechanic when they take part in a win. Another is the Locked Wild, marked with the number 3, indicating it remains on the grid for three wins. Dropz symbols award 1-2 extra drops in both the base and bonus game. Lastly, the Level Up symbol triggers the next level:

  • Level 1 (starting level) – six rows with 3 active rows and 3 rows of chocolate blockers.
  • Level 2 – seven rows with 3 active rows and 4 rows of chocolate blockers.
  • Level 3 – eight rows with 3 active rows and 5 rows of chocolate blockers.

Levels are unlocked when no additional wins occur, and any multipliers, Pair Matching meter progress, or collected bonus symbols are carried into the next level.

Symbol Pairs & Multipliers

In the top-left corner sits the Pair Matching meter, which tracks certain symbol pairs. Any qualifying pairs visible on the grid add progress to the meter and, once it’s filled, a value is added to the win multiplier. When pairs are removed, they also clear symbols and chocolates above or below them, opening space for more symbols to Avalanche into place. Multipliers reset between paid spins.

ReDropz

Landing 3 bonus symbols during an Avalanche chain awards 5 free ReDropz on an 8-row high game grid with 3 active rows and 5 chocolate rows. During the feature, no additional chocolate blockers are added on subsequent spins, though fresh features may appear within the existing chocolate. Wilds persist between spins, and Free Dropz does not use level progression.

X-Iter

Where offered, the X-iter menu gives five different ways to play Dropz. Each option has an RTP of 94%.

  • Bonus Hunt – 2x the bet to buy a game round with more bonus symbols, doubling the chance of triggering the bonus game.
  • Feature Crescendo – 5x the bet to buy a game round with more features or ‘7’ symbols on the grid.
  • Feature Wilds – 25x the bet to buy a game round with 3 locked wilds on the grid.
  • Buy Bonus – 100x the bet to buy the bonus game.
  • Super Bonus – 500x the bet to buy the bonus game with a starting win multiplier of x10.

Dropz: Slot Verdict

Once you’ve skimmed the rules, the objective of Dropz is fairly obvious, but it’s still among the more intricate sweet-themed slots we’ve encountered. It’s a snowball-style setup where winning ways trigger Avalanches, which then remove chocolate blocks, unlock symbols, boost the win multiplier via Multiplier Pairs, advance levels, and finally add ReDropz on top like a finishing touch. It sounds simple enough on paper, yet it doesn’t always feel that simple in play. Plenty needs to align to break through the slower moments and get Dropz firing properly.

It can absolutely get there, but from a numbers perspective Dropz feels like two different games. A Jekyll and Hyde situation, if you like. The bright side is the huge 25,000x the bet max win; the darker side is the 94% RTP, which some players may find difficult to swallow. Even so, Dropz remains a fun slot, with more moving parts to monitor, more features that can combine, overlap, and feed into each other, and higher upside than many rivals in this niche. Overall, Dropz comes across as a genuinely distinctive release—sharing a few similarities with earlier ELK titles like Tropicool, Tropicool 2, or even Illogicool at a push—yet it still serves up its own sticky, sugar-heavy mix of gameplay and features.

That said, Dropz isn’t purely sugar, spice, and everything nice. If you’re specifically hunting for the most generous return values available, Dropz may not make the cut. That 94% ceiling is another sign of ELK’s downward trajectory and could be about as appealing as a dodgy batch of Salmiakki. If that doesn’t bother you, there’s still plenty of glazed goodness here to get through.
