Dragons and Magic: Overview
Studio Stakelogic has been on a roll recently, and the fantasy-themed slot Dragons and Magic is the latest addition to its expanding catalogue. Friendly dragons are a rarity in most entertainment (Puff the Magic Dragon aside), but slots are one of the few places where they can actually work in the player’s favour. Dragons and Magic follows that idea: the winged creatures may look menacing, yet they pave the way to the game’s standout moments through their eggs, eyes, and fireballs.
A 5 reel, 243 win ways setup drops you into a foggy woodland scene, animated with flickering flames, drifting leaves, and a glossy natural glow. The production values are strong, though it doesn’t hit with the same immediate punch as Stakelogic’s earlier fantasy(ish) release Gods of Death. Even with a few tweaks to keep things moving, Dragons and Magic can feel a touch drowsy – right up until the bonus round arrives.
Dragons and Magic is also another title featuring Stakelogic’s trademarked Super Stake option. These add-ons are optional, raising the stake while introducing game-specific modifiers. With it switched off, wagers run from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin. Activate Super Stake and the bet level doubles to 40 p/c to $/€200 a pop.
In return for the higher outlay, you gain access to a Mystical Dragon feature and a Dragon Fireball feature – both explained in the next section. Before that, the key numbers: the RTP of 96.01% sits firmly in the middle of the road (in a good way). Volatility is high, pairing with solid upside and a bonus that enlarges the grid, with the potential to get pretty wild.
All symbols are bespoke, designed specifically for this game. At the low side are four potion bottles (red, yellow, green, blue) that crack open and leave small fiery patterns when they connect. The high pays include a rabbit foot (or maybe a pig trotter—it’s difficult to say), a jewelled ring, a magician, and a dragon with glowing eyes. The dragon has a twist: only two matching are needed to form a win, while five across pays 20 times the stake.
Dragon eye wilds appear in two varieties – standard or multiplier. Either type can land anywhere and substitute for regular pay symbols, while the multiplier wild boosts wins by x2, x5, or x10. Wilds show as a dragon’s eye that blinks to indicate whether it carries a multiplier. Five wilds pay 20 times the stake, and when multiple multiplier wilds contribute to the same win, their values are added together.
Dragons and Magic: Features

Stakelogic’s Super stake mechanic differs from one slot to the next. In Dragons and Magic, enabling it grants two advantages. The first is the Mystical Dragon Eye feature – when it triggers at random, it converts random symbols into wilds or multiplier wilds.
The second random add-on is the Dragon Fireball feature, which hurls several fireballs onto random reel positions, essentially changing the symbols in those spots into matching symbols. On average, both features activate once every 32 spins.
Watch for the golden flaming dragon egg, which acts as the scatter – landing 3, 4, or 5 awards 10, 20, or 50 free spins respectively. In the bonus, an extra symbol is introduced – coloured dragon eggs on reels 2, 3, or 4. With only 1 of these dragon eggs visible, it raises the height of its reel by one, up to a maximum of 6. If 2 or 3 appear, they expand the reels and also turn all symbols on one or two reels into wilds respectively.
Scatters still show up during free spins. Each time one lands, it increases the reel by one, up to a maximum of 6. It also awards 10, 20, or 50 additional free spins when 3, 4, or 5 scatters hit. Once the reels reach full height, as many as 7,776 win ways become available.
Finally, there’s the gamble feature. Stakelogic seems to bolt one onto nearly every release, and this game is no different. Here it’s the familiar face-down card gamble, letting you double or quadruple your winnings by correctly choosing the colour or suit.
Dragons and Magic: Verdict
Stakelogic has been highly productive lately, and meeting that pace often means pulling ideas from wherever they can. In this instance, Dragons and Magic clearly shares a lot with Play’n GO’s Dragon Maiden, echoing both the theme and the expanding reels mechanic. Of course, Dragon Maiden itself drew inspiration from Big Time Gaming’s White Rabbit, so the influence chain continues.
Judged on its own, Dragons and Magic is a solid entry with a mix of strengths and weaknesses. On the plus side, the free spins round can be a blast if you manage to reach it, and the visuals are genuinely impressive.
On the downside, because so much of the experience hinges on free spins, they may take some effort to trigger. And without the Super Stakes option turned on, the enchanted forest can feel about as thrilling as a quick lunchtime walk through your local park.
All in all, Dragons and Magic is a polished, enjoyable slot that should appeal to fantasy fans. Whether it tops Dragon Maiden is another matter—decide for yourself.
