Divine Links: Slot Overview

Divine Links is the first slot release from developer Lucksome, a Malta-based studio that’s owned by Blueprint Gaming. Despite being a new label, this isn’t an inexperienced team. Lucksome brings decades of know-how and is led by Bryan Upton, who formerly headed the RNG games product development division at iGaming giant NetEnt. Blueprint Gaming evidently spotted promise in the newly established studio and quickly snapped it up as part of its expanding roster of acquired teams. With recognizable industry talent involved, expectations were high.

In practice, the initial impact was fairly muted. The developers opted for a familiar showcase theme: Ancient Greece. Divine Links, as it’s called, doesn’t really squeeze much out of that setting either. Gameplay unfolds on a 5×3, 20-payline layout framed by clouds, which doesn’t exactly feel awe-inspiring despite the divine angle. You won’t find harp-strumming figures or gods hurling lightning at mortals below, so the presentation lacks a bit of character. That said, Divine Luck does carry a land-based slot vibe, and if that’s what the studio aimed for, it hits the mark. If you’re into that style, it works; if you aren’t, Divine Links can come across as rather plain.

Divine Links offers a huge betting spread, starting at 20 p/c to possibly $/€500 per spin at the top end. Players are given the full set of stats to help decide whether to chase a bit of divine fortune. The RTP is solid at 96.01%, and volatility is rated medium, listed as 5 out of 10. Bonus and win frequency are scored 7 out of 10 by the developer, so while that isn’t a direct percentage, it suggests you should see reasonably regular reel action.

Five of the pay symbols are the J-A royals, and the remaining set includes apples, pearls, doves, plus a damsel dressed in Ancient Greek style. If you manage to hit a full payline of premium icons, you’ll receive 12.5 to 50 times the stake. Wilds pay double the value of the lady and substitute for standard symbols to form winning combinations. On top of that, wilds display cash values, meaning they also function as money symbols – explained below.

Divine Links: Slot Features

Divine Links – Lucksome Locks feature in play

Hitting 6 money symbols on the screen activates the Lux Reels feature. As soon as the feature begins, an extra row is added to the grid, expanding it to 5×4 in size. Once triggered, you start with 3 spins where only money symbols or heart symbols can appear, and whenever they land they lock in place and the spin counter resets back to 3. Heart symbols then change into either money symbols, rose scatters, or upgrade symbols that multiply cash values by x2. The feature finishes when the spins reach zero, or when every position is filled.

When 2 rose scatters appear during Lux Reels, or 3 in the base game, free spins are awarded. There are 3 options with different volatility levels – low, medium, or high. The first two options grant 6 free spins, a guaranteed Lux Reel trigger, and 1 standard symbol turned into a money symbol. The third, high-volatility choice provides 8 free spins and higher cash values on the money symbols.

If free spins are triggered from the main game Lux Reels feature, players may gain access to a free spins gamble feature. In this mode, you can choose to purchase one extra free spin using a portion of your winnings, gamble for 2 free spins, or collect.

There’s also the Lucksome Locks feature. If 5 money symbols land, players can choose to pay double their bet to lock them in place and spin the remaining positions. During Lucksome Locks spins, only empty spaces or money symbols can land.

Finally, where available, the bonus buy option lets players pay 52.5 times their total bet to trigger free spins.

Divine Links: Slot Verdict

Given the depth of experience behind Lucksome, Divine Links feels somewhat underwhelming. It’s not the kind of bold, fresh experience that transports players somewhere new—if anything, it leans the other way. Between the standard theme and familiar feature set, Divine Links has an old-school feel. If rival studios were watching Lucksome’s debut to see how they’d arrive on the scene, Divine Links probably won’t raise many eyebrows. Still, it is their first slot, so there’s time to develop.

That said, Divine Links isn’t entirely lacking in smart touches. Offering three choices when the bonus triggers adds a little variety, even if the options are broadly similar. The Lux Reels addition is less compelling, as it’s essentially a typical pick ‘n click-style mechanic, so it’s not particularly thrilling. With a more distinctive, immersive theme wrapped around the features, the overall package might have landed better. As it stands, Divine Links’s commonplace gameplay and cookie-cutter visuals don’t generate much excitement.

If Lucksome’s goal was to play it safe and ensure their debut ran without issues rather than try to wow players with big innovation, then they achieved that. Now that the first release is out of the way, the question is whether Lucksome will open up creatively next time. Considering how cautious Divine Links is, it would be surprising if the follow-up was truly groundbreaking. Still, maybe the bigger surprises are planned for later. Time will tell.

Don’t Miss

If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve seen, it’s also worth checking out Lucksome’s second release. Called Joker Maxima, it uses 5-reels and 10-paylines and gives players the opportunity to win over 7,000 times their stake.
