Divine Fortune Black: Slot Overview

Back in 2017, software provider NetEnt took the series into ancient Greece with Divine Fortune, then returned a few years later with the reworked Divine Fortune Megaways. The two titles had plenty in common, but replacing the progressive jackpot with a set of fixed jackpots was easily the most debated change – or, depending on your view, the biggest upgrade. Either players leaned toward static jackpots, or NetEnt did, because the studio has now delivered a third chapter. Called Divine Fortune Black, it invites fans of the first two games to spot what’s familiar and what’s new while chasing cash and jackpot prizes, setting off respins and expanding symbols, and choosing between two bonus rounds.

Where Divine Fortune Megaways went all-in on a bright, lavish vision of a distant past, Divine Fortune Black is far more visually restrained. The base game backdrop is black – and genuinely, that’s most of what you get. No lion statues, no heaps of treasure, more like peering into the coldest edge of space where even starlight can’t reach. Or maybe you’ve wandered into a sleek, ultra-exclusive club that’s minimalist to the core. Either way, the soundtrack brings some drama, golden light shafts highlight Divine Spins, and the full reel Pegasus wilds sweep onto the reels with flair when they land, keeping ties to earlier Divine Fortune slots even as NetEnt tries to steer the series toward something more polished and upscale.

The play area is a little more compact than in the Megaways edition, with Divine Fortune Blacks’ gameplay running on a 5×3 reelset with 20 paylines. Volatility has been pushed higher too, now rated highly volatile, while the three RTP options are led by a top value of 96.08%. Bets range from 20 c to $/€24 per spin, and players can pick from four feature buys if they’d rather take that route.

Queen, King, and Delta sit at the low end of the paytable, returning 1x to 1.5x the bet for 5 OAK, with birds, bulls, lions, and Medusas above them, paying 2 to 5 times the bet for 5 OAK. Wilds show up on the three central reels in the base game and during Divine Spins, substituting for every symbol except scatters, Cash Prizes, and Jackpots.

Divine Fortune Black: Slot Features

The feature set feels very recognisable, combining Cash Prizes, Jackpot symbols, respins, expanding symbols, two selectable bonus rounds once triggered, and Elevate feature buys.

Cash Prizes and Jackpot Collection

Cash Prizes (1x–20x bet) and Jackpots (25x Minor, 250x Major, 2,500x Mega) may drop on reels 2-4 in both the base game and Divine Spins, and on any reel in Fortune Spins. Whenever a Fortune Collector symbol lands, it collects every prize currently showing. Collectors can appear on reels 1 and 5 in the main game and Divine Spins, or anywhere during Fortune Spins.

Respins and Expanding Symbols

A respin is activated when a wild, Cash Prize, or Jackpot lands in the base game. These symbols stick and drop one position on each spin. If a matching symbol lands behind another in the main game or Divine Spins, it expands – unless it is blocked by a different special symbol. Expanded symbols also move down with every respin. Respins end once there are no wilds, Cash Prizes, or Jackpots left on the grid.

Free Spins

Land 3 or more scatters, and players choose whether to start Divine Spins or Fortune Spins.

  • Divine Spins – Activated by 3, 4, or 5 scatters, granting 5, 8, or 12 free spins. Wilds, Cash Prizes, and Jackpots expand unless stopped by another special symbol and trigger respins, shifting down each time. If a wild lands behind a prize symbol (or vice versa), it still expands. Fortune Collectors collect all prize values after expanding. Respins pause the free spins counter.
  • Fortune Spins – Activated by 3, 4, or 5 scatters, awarding 3 spins plus 0-2 Mystery symbols. Only blanks, Cash Prizes, Jackpots, Collectors, and Mystery symbols can land. Landing any non-blank resets the spin count to 3. Symbols stick, and their values add to the total win each spin. Collectors gather visible prizes before the next spin. Spins end when no spins remain or the grid is full. Mystery symbols reveal a random Jackpot (Minor, Major, or Mega). Filling 1, 2, or 3 rows awards an extra Minor, Major, or Mega Jackpot.

Elevate

Elevate is the label for the bonus buy area, which offers four options. Scatter Hunt is priced at 1.5x the bet and boosts the likelihood of triggering free spins, while Walking Wild, costing 10x the bet, means only Fortune Collectors trigger respins, travelling down the reels and expanding when they land behind another Fortune Collector. Divine Spins can be purchased for 50x or Fortune Spins for 100x.

Divine Fortune Black: Slot Verdict

One of the more notable aspects of Divine Fortune Black is how literally NetEnt has leaned into the name, delivering a game that, much of the time, is simply black on screen. Whether that dark, minimalist style is a real step forward or a step back is debatable, but it’s undeniably eye-catching and marks a decisive shift away from what came before, even if it can feel a bit plain to look at. Still, it’s clear the studio chose this direction intentionally rather than through any lack of ability, and the end result feels stylish, helping Divine Fortune Black separate itself from the rest.

There’s arguably less to unpack in the feature list than in the new presentation. Connections to earlier Divine Fortune slots are there, but there are enough tweaks to make each entry distinct. The progressive jackpot is missing once again, for better or worse, and another slot built around mid-level, fixed jackpots probably wasn’t especially high on the online gambling wish list. Fortune Spins cost twice as much to buy as Divine Spins, which makes it seem like that’s the bonus round you really want to reach. Divine Spins are fairly straightforward, although they add an extra incentive through the row-filling mechanic that awards Jackpot prizes. Divine Fortune Black’s win potential is lower than Divine Fortune Megaways, but it still holds up at 20,000x the bet. That said, it’s hard not to wonder what the max win odds look like, considering the previous game reportedly had a nail-biting 1 in more than 39 billion spins.

Combine those unknowns with the fully reworked look, and the overall experience of Divine Fortune Black lands somewhere in the middle. It’s not a disaster and it’s not a standout either – a serviceable slot with a familiar name that arguably could have offered more.
