Dirty Dawgs of Nitropolis: Slot Overview
Dirty Dawgs of Nitropolis is the third slot in developer ELK Studios’ Battle of Nitropolis series, coming after Gritty Kitty of Nitropolis and Rogue Rats of Nitropolis, and setting the stage for Pug Thugs of Nitropolis before the finale, Nitropolis 5. If you played Rogue Rats, you’ll remember how dramatically it veered away from the standard Nitropolis formula. For starters, it wasn’t a conventional slot at all—no reels, rows, columns, ways, paylines, or anything resembling a typical setup. Instead, it was a bold experiment that largely paid off creatively. After tearing through the wasteland with the rat crew, the obvious question was: what would come next?
Dirty Dawgs of Nitropolis, as it turns out, mostly snaps back to the series’ familiar style in both presentation and gameplay. Visually, you’re dropped into that same grim urban dystopia, with an unsettling “Back to Work” sign that leans into a Nineteen Eighty-Four-style mood. It may not be the most lavish-looking Nitropolis entry, but it still looks solid—and the audio is excellent, as is typical for these games. ELK slots generally deliver on that front.

As with ELK titles more broadly, Dirty Dawgs of Nitropolis runs a single RTP configuration of 94%, whether you’re staking 20 c to $/€100 per spin or using X-iter feature buys. One of the more surprising aspects of this highly volatile slot is just how tiny the win structure is for a Nitropolis game: a mere 20. Yes—20, not 20,000 or 20 million—just 20 paylines. Those lines run across a 6-reel layout with 4 positions on each reel.
On payouts, landing a 6-of-a-kind line with 10-A card royals returns 1 to 3.5 times the bet. Above them are the premium symbols: a bowl of dog food, a stein, a pistol, a dog collar, and what appears to be a badge. A 6 matching premium symbol line pays 5 to 25 times the bet. Wilds substitute for any symbol except the scatter or Nitro Feature Box, and any winning wild line pays the same as the top-paying symbol.
Dirty Dawgs of Nitropolis: Slot Features

Nitro Wild Reels take centre stage here, supported by Nitro Feature box modifiers, Dirty Wilds, a free spins bonus, a super free spins bonus, and X-iter buys.
Nitro Wilds Reels
When they appear on the grid, Nitro Wild Reels cover 2 to 4 vertical symbol positions and feature a stack of wild symbols. The indicator level shown on the Nitro Wild Reel reflects the size of the wild stack. Nitro Wild Reels may be randomly upgraded to a higher level, which increases the wild stack size. They can also expand from 1×2 to 1×3 to 1×4. A 1×4 symbol fills the entire reel. Only one Nitro Reel Wild can land on each reel.
Nitro Feature Box
The Nitro Feature Box is a symbol that triggers a random modifier when it lands. It can even set off extra modifiers within the same spin. These are:
- Respin – awards a respin where Nitro Wild Reels, Nitro Feature Boxes, and scatter symbols are sticky.
- Wild – the Nitro Feature Box converts into a wild symbol.
- Nitro Expand – expands the size of a Nitro Wild Reel.
- Nitro Raffle – converts all Nitro Wild Reels in view into a number of 1×1 spinning reels where blanks or coins may hit. Any landed coins award their value, including a possible Max Win coin. Nitro Raffles occur after respins if applicable.
Dirty Wilds
The Dirty Wilds feature can trigger randomly during the base game. When it does, it drops a random number of fully expanded Nitro Wild Reels onto the grid.
Free Spins
Hitting 3 scatter symbols awards the free spins game. Landing 3 scatters triggers free spins, 4 scatters triggers free spins with 1 sticky Nitro Wild Reel, landing 5 scatters triggers free spins with 2 sticky Nitro Wild Reels, and 6 scatters triggers super free spins with 3 sticky Nitro Wild Reels. The free spins bonus game begins only after any respins or Nitro Raffle features have fully resolved. No Nitro Wild Reels carry over from the base game into the bonus. Landing 6 Nitro Wild Reels during the bonus awards +5 extra free spins. The bonus can only be retriggered once. In free spins, Nitro Wild Reels remain sticky.
X-iter
Opening the X-iter menu allows you to enable the following options:
- Bonus Hunt – 3x the bet for triple the chance of triggering the bonus game.
- Three Nitro Wild Reels – 25x the bet for one spin with 3 guaranteed Nitro Wild Reels, and where 3 or more scatter symbols trigger the super bonus.
- Dirty Wilds – one spin with a guaranteed Dirty Wilds trigger for 100x the bet.
- Bonus Game – 100x the bet for the free spins round.
- Super Bonus Game – 500x the bet for the super free spins bonus game with 3 persistent Nitro Wild Reels.

Dirty Dawgs of Nitropolis: Slot Verdict
Following the off-the-beaten-track experiment of Rogue Rats of Nitropolis, Dirty Dawgs of Nitropolis returns to more recognisable radioactive ground. Up to this point, the Battle of Nitropolis series has been a strong way for players to explore more of Nitropolis’ factions—this time through the dogs’ perspective. And these dawgs come armed in more ways than one. Their faces show up on the Nitro Wild Reels, which are among the game’s most vital mechanics. With far fewer ways to win than is typical for a Nitropolis slot, the bigger those Nitro Wild Reels can stack, the more it matters. The standout point is that even with the huge reduction in ways, the win potential still reaches 25,000x the bet.
Fueling the action further—if fortune cooperates—are the Feature Box modifiers and Dirty Wilds. It’s fair to ask how important the Max Win coin is for reaching the game’s full ceiling: is it mandatory, or simply a reassuring possibility? ELK Studios does seem to be leaning increasingly on Max Win coins, as previously seen in Pirots 2, Dam Beavers, and Rogue Rats. The question comes up because it could sometimes feel difficult to build momentum in Dirty Dawgs. With the small number of ways, the relatively low appearance rate of Feature Boxes, and their narrower set of modifiers—no both ways pays, for instance—the game didn’t always deliver that constant “anything can happen” sensation. There are flashes of risky unpredictability, and mechanics like Dirty Wilds and Nitro Raffles work nicely together, but the sense that it could blow up at any second isn’t quite as sharp as in some other Nitropolis entries.
Still, overall, the run-up to Nitropolis 5 has been impressive. It’s been a mix of experimentation and tradition—smart, engaging, and at times genuinely distinctive. The groundwork is clearly being laid for a major Nitropolis 5 launch. No pressure, ELK, but expectations are definitely climbing—and the next stop on the route is Pug Thugs of Nitropolis.
