Crystal Golem: Slot Overview
Golems pop up all over modern culture, from Pokémon to Minecraft, where you’ll find versions like iron or ice. The word itself traces back to Jewish folklore, broadly referring to a “shapeless mass” — matter such as clay animated by sacred words or charms. During the Middle Ages, golems were often imagined as perfect servants, albeit a bit too literal and single-minded in how they carried out tasks. Today, they’re typically portrayed as material-based beings designed for repetitive work that needs little thought.
That idea fits the creatures in Crystal Golem, the second slot release from newcomers Print Studios. Here, golems serve as wilds, so in the base game their role is straightforward. Once free spins are triggered, they take on a few extra responsibilities, though nothing overly demanding. Crystal Golem plays out in a pink, pastel underworld packed with crystals and rocky structures, shifting into a deeper blue tone during free spins. Visually, it carries a clear Push-like vibe — crisp HD presentation with quirky characters and objects — which isn’t surprising given Print Studios includes ex-Push members. The audio is enjoyable as well: a swirling ambient track with a subtle 1980s flavour that wouldn’t feel out of place in a sci‑fi movie from that decade.
Running on a 5-reel, 3-row layout with 20 fixed paylines, Crystal Golem pays when at least three identical symbols land next to each other from the far-left reel. The RTP is available in two versions depending on how the bonus is entered: triggering it normally delivers 96.36%, while buying free spins increases it to 96.99%. The volatility is high, though not at the very top end, and is rated 4 out of 5 by the developers. Another handy figure is the hit frequency, which sits just under one win every four spins — 23.48% precisely.
With stakes ranging from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin, there are nine standard pay symbols that create wins – four low pays and five higher-value icons. The low symbols are Jack, Queen, King, and Ace, even if their designs don’t closely mirror traditional card faces. Above them are cave-themed items: water mushrooms, gold mushrooms, fire mushrooms, crystal bats, and stone snakes. Completing a full payline of premium symbols returns 2.5 to 20 times the stake. Golems are shown on the wild symbol, and five of them on a line delivers the top payout of 50x the stake. Golem wilds also substitute for any pay symbols to finish combinations, and they become even more useful during free spins thanks to an added enhancement.
Crystal Golem: Slot Features
Once you understand what the extra mechanics are doing, Crystal Golem is quite easy to follow, combining cascades, SuperSpinners, and free spins with wild upgrades. The cascade system removes any winning combination from the grid. Symbols above then fall to fill the empty spaces, which can create further wins. Cascading continues until no additional winning lines appear.
Check the separators between the reels and you’ll notice small diamond-shaped objects, with some displaying numbers. These are the SuperSpinners. When a winning payline passes through one that shows a value, the win amount is multiplied by the number. If the same win crosses multiple SuperSpinnner diamonds, the multipliers are applied sequentially. For instance, hitting SuperSpinners marked 4 and 8 results in a combined multiplier of 32.
The glowing bright-white crystal is the scatter. Landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters awards 8, 12, or 16 free Evolution Spins, respectively. During free spins, some SuperSpinners can randomly appear with a green flame; these are known as Charged Spinners. When a wild Golem lands next to a Charged Spinner, it evolves into a wild Golem Stage 2 symbol, which means it remains on the reels for one win after it has contributed to a payout. In addition, the reel where the wild Golem Stage 2 lands is upgraded, so any future wild Golems that appear on that reel automatically become Stage 2. That same reel can be upgraded once more, causing new wild Golems on it to become Stage 3. These upgraded wilds stay in place for two wins.
If you manage to upgrade all reels at least once, then +4 additional free spins are added. Upgrading every reel again grants another set of 4 free spins.
A final option, where available, is the bonus buy. Evolution Spins can be purchased for 100x the bet, guaranteeing at least 3 scatters on the following spin.
Crystal Golem: Slot Verdict
It feels like no time passed between trying Print Studios’ debut Book of Destiny and seeing their follow-up Crystal Golem arrive. Even with the short gap, Crystal Golem doesn’t come across as hurried. Instead, it gives the impression of a team overflowing with ideas and eager to share them. The game looks excellent, the animation is smooth and tidy, and the soundtrack has a cool groove that suits the presentation.
On the animation front, because every winning line is carefully highlighted, some players may feel it slows things down and interrupts momentum. Others will like being guided through each individual win in detail. SuperSpinners are central to strong outcomes in Crystal Golem, mainly because their multipliers compound rather than simply adding together when multiple are involved in the same win. At the top end, the total multiplier can climb to x400.
While playing Crystal Golem, one title that kept coming to mind was Yggdrasil’s heavy-hitter Raptor DoubleMax, which was trending at the time of writing. It doesn’t feel like Print was attempting to imitate it; rather, both games share similarly high-end visuals, a fairly straightforward reel configuration, and a huge number of multipliers that can explode when conditions align. They’re also close in terms of potential, with Crystal Golem reaching a max simulated win of 20,758.5x the bet.
As a second release, Print Studios has delivered another refined and enjoyable slot. In a number of respects it feels more distinctive than their first game, it looks sharp, and it includes a strong multiplier mechanic capable of producing massive outcomes when things fall into place. Print may not be reshaping the genre yet, but titles like Crystal Golem are clearly moving them in the right direction.
