Crystal Catcher: Slot Overview
Crystals and frogs — would you ever put those two together? We certainly didn’t, until Push Gaming’s online slot Crystal Catcher landed on our radar. The link is that Crystal Catcher is a rework of Fire Hopper, a cluster-paying grid slot built around a hopping frog and a set of mechanics featuring wild multipliers, instant prize symbols, and free games. Those core ideas are back, but paired with a major change in theme and some equally notable adjustments to the stats.
Starting with the surface-level changes: Crystal Catcher shifts the action from a lily pad-covered pond to an underground setting — presumably where the crystals are mined. As before, the view is top-down, with the game grid dominating the centre while posts, lanterns, and crystals frame the sides. Visually it’s straightforward rather than spectacular, and it doesn’t quite have the cute, small-scale charm of the earlier game’s sprites. Still, it does what it needs to, helped along by a heavy, mining-style soundtrack that sets the tone. It’s the kind of track that conjures up images of broad-shouldered workers hauling picks down a shaft to get to work.

Crystal Catcher plays out on a 7×7 game board, giving 49 positions and using a cluster pays system. In simple terms, you land a win when 5 or more matching symbols connect next to each other horizontally or vertically. Winning clusters are removed from the grid, and new symbols fall into place, so a single spin can chain into multiple repeat wins. A Highly volatile title, Crystal Catcher is available in multiple RTP variants, with 96.30% as the top option. Stakes run from 10 p/c to $/€100 per spin, and players can switch on the Ante Bet, which increases the chance of triggering the feature for an increased cost of 20%.
As for symbols, Crystal Catcher includes 6 standard pay icons, all represented by crystals in different colours and styles. The higher the value, the more elaborate the crystal looks, with a 5-symbol cluster paying 0.2 to 2 times the bet, while a 16+ cluster returns 12.5 to 100 times the stake.
Crystal Catcher: Slot Features

Mechanically, the feature set is largely unchanged and consists of 2 wild symbols, Crystal Symbols, Bonus Crystal symbols, a Crystal Catcher feature, Instant Prize symbols, Free Games, and bonus buys.
Wild Symbols
The Wild Beetle symbol and the Wild Gold Beetle symbol can substitute for any regular paying symbol in Crystal Catcher. Every Wild Beetle symbol carries a multiplier that begins at x1. That multiplier applies to any win involving the Wild Beetle symbol, and it increases by 1 whenever it flies during the Crystal Catcher feature.
Crystal Symbol & Crystal Catcher
Crystal symbols don’t pay by themselves, but if one appears at the same time as a Wild Beetle symbol, the Crystal Catcher feature triggers. When it does, the Wild Beetle symbol leaps to the Crystal symbol, causing two outcomes. The Wild Beetle symbol’s multiplier increases by 1, and it leaves behind a Golden Wild Beetle symbol on the square it jumped from, carrying the same multiplier value. Wild Beetle symbol multipliers rise by 1 whenever they move to collect Crystal symbols, Bonus Crystal symbols or Instant Prize symbols.
Bonus Crystal Symbol & Free Games
If a Bonus Crystal symbol shows up at the same time as a Wild Beetle symbol, the Crystal Catcher Feature is activated. Once the Wild Beetle symbol collects the Bonus Crystal symbol, 7 free spins are granted. In free spins, the Wild Beetle symbol stays locked in position, while Wild Gold Beetle symbols can cascade away.
Instant Prizes
Instant Prizes can land with values ranging from 1 to 500 times the bet. When a Wild Beetle lands while an Instant Prize symbol is visible, it will fly over to award the prize value and boost its multiplier at the same time.
Bonus Buy
Players can opt to purchase the normal bonus for 75x the bet or the Super bonus for 275x the bet. The Super bonus differs by offering a greater chance of landing the 3 higher-paying symbols, Crystal symbols, and Instant Prizes.

Crystal Catcher: Slot Verdict
Realistically, Crystal Catcher is a reskin with a softer edge compared to what came before. Within the crystal/mining theme, it’s also visually eclipsed by other entries in the genre — for instance, the striking setting Print Studios built for Crystal Golem, or some of Nolimit City’s trips underground, with Dead Canary being one example. That’s not to knock Push Gaming’s design ability, but stacked against the standout titles in their own catalogue, Crystal Catcher doesn’t quite hit as hard.
Even so, Crystal Catcher can still be a good time. Fire Hopper was genuinely enjoyable, and Crystal Catcher delivers flashes of that same fun. Because it’s essentially a second pass at familiar ideas, the impact isn’t quite as strong, and the number changes may also dampen its pull for some players. The previous game’s 50,000x is no longer here, swapped for a more grounded — and presumably more attainable — 10,000x the bet max win in Crystal Catcher. That alone isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, but without the same individual spark its froggy relative had, the notably reduced win cap doesn’t do it any favours. For some, at least.
Still, at the heart of it, Crystal Catcher provides a solid and reliable set of features. Push Gaming have become specialists in the jumping, escalating multiplier wild idea — partly thanks to Fire Hopper, and even more so through the hugely popular Jammin’ Jars series. There’s definitely exciting entertainment to be found while playing Crystal Catcher, though the lingering feeling remains that even bigger thrills are waiting elsewhere in the Push Gaming collection.
