Crazy Chilli: Slot Verdict

After finishing up with Crazy Chilli, it was obvious the game doesn’t really live up to its name. If anything, a quick scan of the paytable makes it clear it’s built as a follow-up to The Goonies Hey You Guys, so there isn’t much genuine unpredictability to keep you guessing. Ironically, one of the most “out there” choices is that it drops the modifiers found in the Goonies slot. Beyond that, it’s essentially the same show again, just dressed in a fairly standard chilli/mariachi-style theme.

The Goonies Hey You Guys itself was loosely connected to D10S Maradona, an earlier title that also featured four unlockable collect symbols, but the presence of recognisable characters helped soften (or at least distract from) any complaints about recycled mechanics thanks to the goodwill of revisiting a much-loved film. After that came Funky Buddha, a middling rework of the Goonies format, and now Crazy Chilli, which is the toughest of the bunch to get excited about. From a purely mechanical standpoint, the gameplay here is just as solid (or just as underwhelming) as it was the other times this feature package appeared. However, the familiar routine and the lack of inspiration in the theme meant Crazy Chilli ultimately feels more like a mild, everyday sauce than a truly spicy, off-the-wall experience.
