Colt Lightning Firestorm: Slot Overview
Think back to February 2023, when Play’n GO launched its horses-and-lightning release Colt Lightning. Drawing a blank? Perhaps the intro, with a horse sprinting across the scenery before being wiped out by a lightning strike, will ring a bell. Either way, Play’n GO is back in the saddle with a sequel called Colt Lightning Firestorm. The overall feel is similar, but the developers have introduced a new set of features and significantly increased one of the headline figures.
The base game of Colt Lightning Firestorm drops us into a parched grassland setting. A lonely, Wild West-style twangy guitar helps set the scene, as if a huge duel is about to kick off. Luckily for horse fans, no colts get vaporised in the opening this time, so that darkly comic moment is missing. Aside from that, Colt Lightning Firestorm looks and sounds very much in line with its predecessor.

The control panel in Colt Lightning Firestorm feels more conventional than last time. Pressing spin now runs a 5-reel, 4-row layout, offering 1,024 ways to win. Before spinning, players can choose a wager from 10 c to $/€100. The volatility is rated medium-high (7 out of 10), and the default RTP, taken from five possible return setups, is 96.2%.
Chunky stone 10-A royals make up the low-paying symbols in Colt Lightning Firestorm, paying 1.2x to 1.6x for a 5 OAK win. Above them are snakes, wolves, cougars, eagles, and Colts, which return 2 to 8 times the bet for a 5-of-a-kind. Colts only show up in the base game and switch to Fire Colts during the free spins feature. Landing 5 Fire Colts pays 8 times the bet. Wilds can assist in forming winning ways by replacing any standard pay symbol, and they appear on the three middle reels.
Colt Lightning Firestorm: Slot Features

Overall, Colt Lightning Firestorm plays quite differently compared to the earlier game, with its core features being Lightning Blaze, Firestorm Feature, Firestorm Strike, and Fire Free Spins.
Lightning Blaze
Lightning Blaze is triggered on any spin when a horseshoe symbol lands on the middle reel. When Lightning Blaze activates, 3 to 20 Fire Frames randomly appear on the reels, transforming symbols into a single animal symbol type.
Firestorm Feature
Hitting 4 Firestorm scatters on reels 2, 3, and 4 starts the Firestorm feature. The Firestorm Feature is made up of Fortune Strike and Fire Free Spins, and the game sheet states that both will be triggered during the Firestorm feature. However, in the demo, when 3 scatters landed, they activated only one of the features rather than both. Firestorm Strike awards an instant prize of 5x to 200x the total bet.
Fire Free Spins grants 8 free spins, played on a reel set expanded by one extra row, increasing the ways to win to 3,125. In Fire Free Spins, Colt symbols do not appear, as they are converted into Fire Colt symbols that pay double. Landing the Horseshoe symbol activates the Lightning Blaze feature. In this Lightning Blaze, 1 to 4 Fire Frames appear randomly on the reels and stick for the rest of the feature. Once Fire Free Spins ends, any Fire Frames still showing transform into one animal symbol type. Finally, each Fire Ball scatter that lands during Fire Free Spins adds +1 additional free spin, up to a maximum of 46 free spins.

Colt Lightning Firestorm: Slot Verdict
Colt Lightning Firestorm is the kind of slot where the huge win potential risks overshadowing everything else the game offers—or even masking its weaker points. The first disappointment came when 3 scatters landed to trigger the Firestorm feature. Based on how the game documentation describes it, it sounds like you’re about to receive both a Firestorm Strike instant win and Fire Free Spins. Instead, only one or the other ever activated. The first time it happened, only Firestorm Strike kicked in, cycling through its prize reel before stopping on the payout amount—around 10x the bet, for anyone keeping score. The reel even teased by briefly pausing on 200x, the top prize, before sliding away to something far less exciting. In other words, mildly infuriating.
Those two points soured things, and Colt Lightning Firestorm didn’t always manage to recover. Most of the time, it didn’t. Still, the potential is there, and the advertised 50,000x the bet max win may act like blinkers for players who mainly chase the biggest numbers above all else. It’s undeniably a massive figure and twice what the original Colt Lightning slot offered, though you might have a better chance of seeing a horse actually get struck by lightning than watching either game reach its ceiling (it happens LESS than once in a billion spins, whatever that means – 0.10 in 1 billion?).
Sorry if that came off a bit sharp, because Colt Lightning Firestorm wasn’t a disaster overall. The free spins round can generate a decent number of frames, and having them convert into the same premium symbol at the end of the bonus can be genuinely thrilling. Credit where it’s due. Still, if you ignore that enormous maximum win for a moment, Colt Lightning Firestorm loses a fair bit of its shine.
