City of Sound: Slot Overview
Over the years, software provider Play’n GO has regularly leaned into music themes, not least with high-energy rock titles like Twisted Sister and Kiss Reels of Rock. Those were branded releases with famous names front and centre, but this time the studio has gone for something more in-house. It’s called City of Sound, and it draws inspiration from Britpop, the alt-rock offshoot that hit its peak in the mid-90s as bands such as Blur and Oasis went head-to-head in the charts. For Britpop lovers, that premise may sound perfect (pun intended), yet the features and overall play are less thrilling because they’ve been lifted wholesale from the fairly average Ancient Rome slot Legion Gold Victory.
In City of Sound, the downpour has passed and a rainbow hangs over a slice of urban UK that could realistically be almost anywhere in the country. The backdrop is a familiar red-brick house that feels distinctly British—everyday in the truest sense, though not meant as an insult. A quick online search even suggested the Gallagher’s (of Oasis) family home looked strikingly similar to what’s shown here, although it’s also fair to say plenty of UK houses share this same look.

The playfield uses a 5×3 grid styled to resemble a piece of music gear, and wins are checked across 25 paylines. Stake selection is handled with arrows, ranging from 5 c to $/€100, while the green dial on the right acts as the spin button. Before spinning, players should note it’s a medium volatile slot, and the best of its five RTP settings is 96.3%.
City of Sound’s symbols include J to A royals, plus microphones, tambourines, sunglasses, and bucket hats. Five matching royals return 2x the bet, while the other symbols pay 8x to 20x for a 5 OAK win. Wilds pay the same as the hat symbol, can appear on every reel in 1×1, 1×2, or 1×3 sizes, and substitute for all standard paying symbols.
City of Sound: Slot Features

Just like Legion Gold Victory, City of Sound comes with Gold Respins, Gold Record Cases, Mega Free Spins and a Gold Record Stack Win prize feature.
Gold Respins & Gold Record Case
Landing 6 Gold Record symbols grants 3 Gold Respins, during which only Gold Records or Gold Record Cases can appear. When another Gold Record lands, the respins are reset to 3. Gold Records stick in position, and once the feature finishes, every Gold Record value still showing is paid. Gold Records carry a random value of 1x to 1,000x the bet. If Gold Records fill all positions on the grid, an extra 1,000x Golden Prize is awarded on top of the combined Gold Record values on display.
Landing a Gold Record Case pays the total value of all Gold Records currently visible on the reels. In Gold Respins, Gold Record Cases do not stick, but they do reset the respin count back to 3. Gold Records can be collected multiple times during Gold Respins.
Mega Free Spins
Landing 3 scatters awards 5 Mega Free Spins. On each spin, a 3×3 Mega symbol appears in a random position. Mega Free Spins may be retriggered by hitting the Mega Scatter up to a cap of 45 free spins. Gold Respins can also activate during Mega Free Spins by landing the Mega Gold Record, which then splits into 9 Gold Coins with random values.
Gold Record Stack
When Gold Records land but Gold Respins are not triggered and there is no Gold Record Case, those Gold Records are collected by the Gold Record Stack above the grid. When this occurs, there’s a chance the Gold Record Stack will award a Win Prize. The prize can reach up to 100x, although the likelihood of the Gold Record Stack activating does not change based on how many Gold Records have been collected.

City of Sound: Slot Verdict
Once it became clear that City of Sound is essentially a remake of Legion Gold Victory, the early buzz of a Britpop-flavoured slot quickly fizzled out. That’s a shame in a way, because the 90s delivered plenty of iconic tracks that are still loved today, and Play’n GO has a solid history of building music slots with real punch. They haven’t all been winners, but the developer does have genuine head-bangers in its catalogue—Lordi Reel Monsters and Testament are two examples that really turn things up.
Reskins are nothing new in the studio’s library, and for whatever reason the team chose to recycle the Legion Gold Victory framework here. Maybe British players have embraced the Legion Gold series strongly enough that Play’n GO felt a patriotic, music-themed spin would land well. The end product is serviceable at best, held back by the original game’s constraints—almost like a UK take on Dansband På Turné, another Play’n GO reskin built around a specific regional angle.
It was said that Liam and Noel Gallagher would earn more from the Oasis reunion tour than they did throughout the entire 1990s. City of Sound can’t claim anything similar, even if its 4,000x max exposure (take this number with a grain of salt) is the largest figure among the Legion Gold-related slots. Overall, it feels like a missed chance: a Britpop slot could genuinely shine if executed well—even without a brand—yet City of Sound ends up more like a forgettable support act no one recalls afterwards.
