Castle of Terror 2: Slot Overview
Horror isn’t everyone’s go-to kind of entertainment, yet for fans it’s a genre packed with adrenaline, psychological intrigue, controlled scares, and plenty more. Mix that atmosphere with the built-in excitement of gambling and it’s easy to understand why both studios and players are drawn to horror-themed slots. Developer Big Time Gaming blended those elements effectively in its 2022 online slot Castle of Terror, and later followed it up with a sequel, Castle of Terror 2, which explores a different brand of terror alongside a fresh set of features.
The chills in Castle of Terror came from a crew of blood-drinking, sharp-toothed nosferatu living in a hulking gothic castle perched above a quaint town, like something out of an Eastern European folk nightmare. Castle of Terror 2 takes a different route for its scares. Hints appear in the Frankenstein’s monster head looming above the reels and the pair of huge green hands framing them. The base game unfolds outside, with a looming gothic castle and a foggy graveyard—presumably where the scientist sources his “materials”—before shifting indoors for the free spins bonus, where a manic laboratory of devices, gauges, and flashing lights fuels the chaos. Both settings are richly detailed and wonderfully dark, with a strong sense of life in the shadows.

Castle of Terror 2 trims the playfield compared to the original, with the action now taking place on a 5×4 gaming area offering 1,024 ways to win. Winning combinations form from the leftmost reel when matching symbols land on consecutive reels. The slot comes in three RTP versions, with a 96.48% option representing the highest, while the math model volatility is described by the developer as ‘very high‘. Stake options depend on the max exposure setting, but range from $/€0.10 to a maximum of $/€10-40.
On the reels, pay symbols include low-paying 9-A royals plus four higher-value icons: Lungs, Lady, Old Man, and Brains. Landing 5 matching royals returns 0.3x to 0.5x the bet, while 5 matching high pays deliver 0.6x to 1.5x. Wilds replace all symbols except scatters, and they can appear on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Castle of Terror 2: Slot Features

Castle of Terror 2 packs in base game Bonus Respins, free spins, a set of modifiers, plus two feature buy choices.
Bonus Respin
In the base game, landing a single scatter triggers a Bonus Respin. Which respin effect you get depends on the reel where the scatter lands:
- Reel 1 Brains – all reels are enhanced with extra Brains symbols.
- Reel 2 Alive – a random multiplier of x3 to x10 is applied to all wins.
- Reel 3 Shock – a random multiplier of x2 to x5 is added to wilds that spin in with the reels.
- Reel 4 Monster – at random, the Brains, Old Man, Lady, or Lungs symbol becomes wild on reels 2 to 5.
- Reel 5 Horror – a random reel (2-5) is filled with wilds.
Free Spins
Hitting 2 or 3 scatters in the base game—or seeing one or more scatters during a Bonus Respin—awards 10 free spins. In free spins, a win multiplier applies that starts at x1 and increases after each winning spin. The round runs with 2 or 3 active bonuses, determined by the reels where the triggering scatters land (including the original scatter that started the Bonus Respin, if relevant). Only one scatter can land per reel, up to a maximum of three scatters overall.
- Brains – all reels are enhanced with extra Brains symbols.
- Alive – the free spins multiplier starts at x3, x5, x8, or x10. If free spins are triggered from a Bonus Respin, the multiplier is carried over.
- Shock – wilds that spin in with the reels have a random multiplier of x2 to x5 applied.
- Monster – at random, the Brains, Old Man, Lady, or Lungs symbol becomes wild on reels 2 to 5. If free spins trigger from a Bonus Respin, the chosen symbol is carried over.
- Horror – a random reel (2-5) is filled with wilds on each free spin.
While the free spins feature is running, landing 2 or more scatters grants +4 free spins, and each scatter after the second adds a further +2 spins.
Feature Buy
Castle of Terror 2’s feature buy includes two choices. Paying for 100x the bet lets players purchase free spins with 2 active bonuses, while buying free spins with 3 active bonuses costs 300x to buy.

Castle of Terror 2: Slot Verdict
Castle of Terror 2 proves that lightning can strike twice—almost literally here—as Big Time Gaming has delivered another compelling horror-slot entry. This follow-up drops the vampire vibe of the original and reworks much of the gameplay, replacing it with a Frankenstein-inspired mix of stitched visuals, volatile pacing, and retooled features. A major highlight is the presentation, which builds a grim world of the dead, the undead, and unchecked ambition pushing against the rules of nature. It’s not truly terrifying—this is still a slot—but the high-quality audio and visuals draw players into Castle of Terror 2 before the mechanics take over to provide the other half of the fun.
Notably, Castle of Terror 2’s mechanics felt closer to Big Time Gaming’s Max Megaways slots than to Castle of Terror. It’s not quite Max Megaways 3, since there’s no Megadozer, but the way free spins can trigger with certain modifiers already in play is a familiar idea. The modifiers themselves are strong too, ranging from full reel wilds and wild multipliers to symbol-to-wild conversions. Combine that with the rising win multiplier during free spins and Castle of Terror 2 becomes a powerful mix. Even so, when viewing the overall package, Castle of Terror 2 is in some respects a more compact game than the first. The grid is smaller, the RTP isn’t as generous, and the win potential has been reduced from 61,720x down to 20,160x. It comes across as slightly smoothed out, in places, perhaps to make it less extreme and more broadly accessible.
That doesn’t mean Castle of Terror 2 is gentle—or lacking teeth. Like the pacing of a horror story, its high volatility can lead to long stretches of suspense followed by sudden, high-energy bursts of payout, where tension (especially as each reel stops during free spins) builds before things may erupt. Overall, Castle of Terror 2 delivers another horror-charged slot experience that may not be as statistically intense as the original, but remains highly satisfying all the same.
