Cash Compass: Overview

Bold developer Hacksaw Gaming returns with a fresh entry in their Pocketz series. This time they’ve opted for a grid-slot setup in a charming title called Cash Compass. Built with mobile online casino play in mind, Pocketz games keep the visuals clean and the focus on enjoyment rather than showy effects. If you’ve tried any of them before, you’ll immediately spot Cash Compass as a Pocketz slot thanks to its style, little quirks, and straightforward gameplay.

Cash Compass arguably brings more character than some of its siblings. It’s actually the most visually detailed of the bunch so far, although that’s still within Pocketz’s modest design philosophy. This series isn’t about huge graphics or constant fireworks; it’s relaxed, easygoing play, and Cash Compass fits that approach perfectly. The 6×6 grid sits in the brightest of settings, The Caribbean Sea, on an island with absolutely no one around. Just palm trees, sand, ocean, warm breezes, and parrots—plenty of parrots. It’s a spot that works as well for social distancing as it does for spinning.

With stakes from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin, Cash Compass is a medium variance game delivering a dependable RTP of 96.42%. Every spin drops 36 symbols into the grid. Wins come from landing clusters of 6 or more matching symbols connected vertically or horizontally. You might assume a cascade mechanic would follow, but Hacksaw decided against it—wins are paid, then you move straight on to the next spin.

The symbol set is a mixed bag of island-themed and not-so-island-themed icons. At the lower end are J-A symbols, then come maps, shields, potion bottles, and parrots. These symbols can form clusters up to 15+, paying 10 – 130 times the stake. The standout top payer is the compass, which awards 1,000 times the stake for a cluster of 30 or more. Because of how the features operate, building sizeable compass clusters is definitely on the cards.

Cash Compass: Features

It’s not just a case of lounging on the sand and watching symbols land—there are three features to keep an eye on. These are the Compass feature, Free Spins, and the Bonus Wheel.

The Compass feature can trigger in both the base game and during free spins. In the main game, landing 5 or more compass symbols on the screen makes the compass in the logo spin. Once it stops, the compass symbols on the grid duplicate and expand in the direction indicated by the needle. Any standard wins are paid out before the feature activates.

When 3 scatter symbols appear anywhere on the screen, players receive 10 free spins. In free spins mode, additional compass symbols are introduced, and whenever at least one lands, the compass feature triggers.

Chests in slots usually mean one thing—treasure. To access the bonus game, you need to land 3 chest symbols. The bonus is a spinning wheel split into 8 segments. Each time the wheel lands, the shown multiplier is added to the running total, and that particular multiplier steps up to the next level. The wheel can spin up to 50 times, or it ends early if it hits the skull segment. Multipliers begin at 1x and can rise in steps of 10x, 25x, 100x, and finally 250x.

Cash Compass: Verdict

Cash Compass is another entertaining little release from Hacksaw Gaming. That said, it isn’t really that little, even if it can feel lightweight at first—especially if the Pocketz series is new to you. Like the other entries, though, it has a smooth rhythm that makes it easy to keep playing. It also offers more upside than you might initially expect.

With its breezy setting and uncomplicated play, Cash Compass sits naturally within the Pocketz lineup. Hacksaw has done an excellent job building a set of games that do exactly what they’re meant to do: deliver simple slots that players can relax with after a long day. Or, just as often, while commuting to or from work.

They’re a great fit for anyone who enjoys Candy Crush-style apps but wants a bit more bite and payoff. And the payoff is certainly present. At the moment, Cash Compass is the highest paying slot in the series, reaching 7,400 times the stake. The biggest wins can happen in the hard-to-find Bonus Game, where multipliers can stack to serious levels.

Cash Compass also nudges the series slightly away from its ultra-minimal roots. As long as Hacksaw maintains the simple, laid-back feel, that shift shouldn’t be a problem—and Cash Compass definitely keeps that vibe. The mechanics are straightforward but enjoyable, even if it may take a little time to click.

In testing, the lower-value clusters meant there were stretches where very little happened, made more noticeable by the lack of any cascade feature. Still, things did start to ramp up after a while—first through the Compass feature, which shows up fairly often and adds a bit of suspense.

After that, the features themselves proved pretty entertaining. The first time free spins landed, a big batch of parrots dropped onto the grid on the final spin, producing a 130x hit on top of the other wins from the round. Not the full 7,400x, but a nice result all the same.

All in all, Cash Compass is another highly playable entry in the Pocketz series. Hacksaw has managed to keep the core spirit of the range intact while still delivering noticeably different experiences each time. It may not have the strangely addictive x-factor of Cubes, but it’s a fun title regardless.
