Caribbean Anne 2: Slot Overview
If Kalamba Games hasn’t been on your radar, you may have missed their original Caribbean Anne (2019) release. Kalamba described that pirate outing as a “smash hit,” so it’s no surprise the piratess returns for a sequel. As you’d expect from a follow-up, most of the numbers have been pushed higher, the feature set has been adjusted, and a few familiar elements make a comeback. On the plus side, Kalamba has ditched the odd HyperBet setup from the first game, choosing instead to centre things around a couple of respin/free spins mechanics and a HyperBet bonus buy where allowed.
Visually, the sequel is noticeably brighter. The first Caribbean Anne leaned into a darker vibe with stormy seas, Kraken tentacles, and similar nastiness. In Caribbean Anne 2, Anne looks to have discovered a far more inviting hideout—ideal for stashing treasure or keeping out of reach of privateer hunters. In the base game, the sunny scenery, a large skull-cave structure, and dense tropical plant life create a relaxed Caribbean atmosphere. The central peak even hints at somewhere like St Lucia. When free spins arrive, the scene shifts inside a candlelit ship overflowing with loot, moonlight pouring through the rear window, while the music switches to a more dramatic pirate theme. The artwork works well in both modes, and the female swashbuckler twist is a welcome touch.
One of the clearest upgrades in Caribbean Anne 2 is how much cleaner the betting is. The original ran on a four-level HyperBet system that boosted wild multiplier values the more you paid. The ugly part was the huge swing in RTP. At the top HyperBet level, RTP sat at a respectable 97.03%, but the stake jumped by 5.4x. Stick with the standard HyperBet 1 level and RTP fell to a poor 93.52%. Not exactly elegant.
Thankfully, Caribbean Anne 2 drops that pressure entirely, with all stakes returning the same value across 40 p/c to $/€80 per spin. Whatever you wager, the RTP is a bright 96.71% when playing normally, or 96.9% to 97.16% when buying the feature. Gameplay runs on a 5×4 sized grid with 40 fixed paylines, and the hit frequency comes in at 17%. It’s a highly volatile title—Kalamba scores it 10/10—while also offering strong upside.
A win lands when at least three matching symbols connect adjacently along a payline starting from the leftmost reel. There are ten paying symbols in total: six low-value 9-A card ranks and four higher-paying premium symbols showing different pirate characters. Hitting five premiums in one line pays 0.75 to 1 time the stake. Luckily, multipliers are on hand to spice those returns up.
Caribbean Anne 2: Slot Features
Alongside the streamlined staking, Caribbean Anne 2 also eases up on complexity. That said, it’s still Kalamba, so you may run into a couple of “wait, what?” moments when matching the paytable to what’s unfolding on the reels. Nothing too wild, though, as the main mechanics are Locking Wild Respins, free spins, and the HyperBonus.
Locking Wild Respins
There’s a special Anne symbol which, when it lands, leaves a Wild Frame around its position, showing an x1 multiplier. If another special Anne symbol lands inside a frame on a later spin, the multipliers in all visible frames increase by +1, up to a maximum of x30.
A special cannon symbol is also in play. When one lands in the base game, it awards 1 x Locking Wild Respin where all framed positions turn into wild multipliers. After the respin finishes and wins are paid, every frame is removed from the reels before the next paid spin.
Free Spins
Treasure chests act as the bonus symbols, and when 3 land in the base game, the Free Spins round starts and 1x the bet is paid. Free spins are unlimited and continue until the Locking Wild Respin feature has been triggered 3 times. During free spins, Wild Frames stay on the reels until the bonus round ends. Cannon symbols can also appear as +1 cannons or x2 cannons. The +1 cannon symbol increases the Wild Frame multiplier by +1 before triggering a Locking Wild Respin. The x2 cannon doubles the Wild Frame multiplier before triggering a Locking Wild Respin.
HyperBonus
Where offered, Caribbean Anne 2 includes 4 HyperBet bonus buy options. Each option finishes once the specified number of Locking Wild Respin features has occurred. A bonus round with 2, 3, 4, or 5 Respin features is priced at 19.55x, 58.55x, 148.5x, or 330.25x the bet, respectively.
Caribbean Anne 2: Slot Verdict
Caribbean Anne 2 keeps the core feel of the original while tweaking enough areas to make it a stronger overall package. The aim remains the same: stack up as many Wild Frames as you can in the base game or bonus to get the multipliers rolling. And you’ll want them, because even if you somehow covered the grid with the top-paying symbol without any modifiers, the payout is only 40x the bet. Fortunately, Wild Frames can deliver meaningful multiplier boosts, and Caribbean Anne 2 handles the cannon-triggered respins in a more refined way than the first game. Previously, every ten spins, any frames collected would convert into wilds, then the cycle would start again.
It’s also refreshing that Caribbean Anne 2 doesn’t treat players with the same level of disregard as its predecessor. The idea of punishing anyone who stayed on the default HyperBet Level 1 with that dreadful 93.52% return is hard to justify. Any slot that sits at 93.52% unless you pay extra to lift it to acceptable territory—raising the base bet by up to 440%—isn’t exactly on your side. With the need to wait 10 spins for frames to turn into wilds, the higher cost could chew through bankroll and patience fast. Caribbean Ann 1 did list the stats clearly in the paytable, but it still felt like opening a big bag of crisps and finding mostly empty space with a few crushed pieces at the bottom. Thankfully, that’s been removed in Caribbean Anne 2. Another upside for keyboard treasure hunters is the appealing 14,100x the bet max win.
All told, Caribbean Anne 2 is a decent pirate-themed slot. It carries a pleasing LeChuck’s Revenge vibe, a relaxed reggae-style soundtrack, and the features can deliver—though there’s still a touch of Kalamba’s trademark fiddliness. It’s definitely an improvement on the original, even if that bar wasn’t set particularly high given how unfriendly the first game could feel to regular players.
