Book of Adventure Introduction

We haven’t really featured Stakelogic much on this site. As a matter of fact, we haven’t reviewed any of their slots before. Since it’s still a relatively young studio, plenty of you may not even know this Netherlands-based company, which has only been active in the industry since late 2015. What’s notable is that it’s a sister company of Greentube, which in turn is a parent company of Novomatic.

With Novomatic being closely linked to its well-known range of classic land-based casino slots, Stakelogic was introduced as a newer banner where programmers, mathemagicians and slot creators could collaborate on html5 titles with their own character and identity, even though Stakelogic slots do share a lot of familiar Novomatic-like qualities.

The game we’re covering here is essentially a ‘Book’ clone of a clone. For some reason, Stakelogic chose to copy Play’n GO’s Book of Dead rather than the original version made by its parent company. It’s not impossible this was intended as a jab at Play’n GO for having copied their flagship title so openly in the first place.

Given how popular it is, most of you probably already know Book of Dead, and we can say right away that this is a direct copy, right down to the last decimal of the RTP. That doesn’t automatically mean the moment-to-moment results will match, since hit rate, bonus frequency and how the RTP is distributed can differ massively. Either way, Book of Adventure is a 5-reel, 5-row slot with 10 pay lines. It runs on all devices and supports stakes from €0.10 and €50 per spin, so it works for both low-rollers and high-rollers. With a 96.21% RTP, the clones offer more theoretical value than the original Book of Ra at 95.10% RTP – at least on paper.

If you’ve played Book of Dead, you’ll settle in immediately, as the symbols are almost the same, although the choir-like sound when the books land is lifted straight from Novomatic’s Book of Ra. Overall, it delivers exactly what you’d expect from an ancient Egypt slot: a gold-heavy palette, reels framed by two hieroglyph-covered pillars in front of a pyramid backdrop, and a tense Arabian-style audio loop running in the background.

Book of Adventure Paytable

When it comes to the symbols, nothing here is unexpected. The reels include the usual royal card values along with three classic Egyptian figures – Horus, Anubis and pharaoh Tutankhamun. The biggest payer, though, is the India Jones inspired adventurer, awarding 500 times the stake if you hit 5 across a full pay line in the base game.

Free Spins Feature

The book symbol acts as both wild and scatter. Hit 3 of them and you’ll enter the free spins feature, starting with 10 spins. Before the round kicks off, one symbol is randomly selected to become the special expanding symbol.

From then on, whenever your chosen symbol appears, it expands to fill the entire reel, boosting the potential number of winning pay lines. For low-value symbols, at least 3 must land to trigger expansion, while premium symbols only need 2. As with other book-style slots, retriggers happen fairly often, and it’s possible to retrigger 2, 3, 4 or even 5 times during the free spins feature.

The top win comes from landing 5 adventurers in the bonus, producing a 5000 times the stake payout. The adventurer is also the most volatile symbol, meaning you’ll usually see smaller returns, but with the chance of huge hits.

Book of Adventure Conclusion

Since it mirrors Book of Dead in visuals, mechanics and RTP, the real question is how it feels to play. Without a detailed fact sheet or running thousands of spins, it’s difficult to make a definitive comparison on hit rate and balance, so you’ll ultimately need to judge it for yourself.

After spending some time with Book of Adventure, our impression is that it plays a bit more volatile than Book of Dead, though that’s based on a limited set of sessions, so take it with a pinch of salt. On top of that, the overall flow in Book of Adventure can feel slightly choppy and flat compared to its rival.

Even though we’re always glad to see more classic Book slots, we don’t see it pulling many players away from Book of Dead, which is now so entrenched it could practically be called the original clone.
