Black Mamba (Play’n GO): Overview
Black Mamba is the fourth entry in Play’n GO’s series of rock band-themed slots, following House of Doom, Sabaton, and Demon. As rock artist Marielle Tengström kindly noted in the comments on our Demon review, a lot of our criticism back then came down to not really understanding the classic rock scene. Her feedback taught us plenty, and we made a point of doing our homework better from that moment on.
If Demon felt niche, Black Mamba leans even further in that direction. Not because of the mechanics—this is a fairly standard Play’n GO grid slot, as you’ll see—but because of the subject matter. So who exactly are Black Mamba? A quick look at Wikipedia didn’t help much, turning up only a Ugandan anti-terrorist organisation with the same name—no doubt admirable, but not the band we meant. According to their Spotify bio, Black Mamba is an Italian four-piece hard rock group featuring vocalist Martina Cori, bassist Cecilia Nappo, guitarist Alexandra Maiolo, and drummer Fred Maragoni. Since they’re still relatively small and not widely known, it’s an unusual pick for a branded slot. On the other hand, it’s also a nice way to stumble upon new music while giving up-and-coming bands a bit of extra exposure.
From a presentation standpoint, expect booming audio, plenty of animation, and lots of flashing elements competing for your focus. The action takes place in a rock club, with the reels set up on a stage. And rather than Greek gods like in Rise of Olympus, one of the band members stands beside the reels to show which feature is currently active. Symbol-wise, the lower-paying icons are music-themed items like microphones, headphones, guitar picks, and drumsticks with cymbals. The higher-value symbols are the band members—Alexandra, Cecilia, and Fred—where 5 in a cluster pays 5 times your stake. Any mix of those three symbols awards 3 times your stake.
You’ll also find two wilds in the mix: a standard wild shown as the band logo, plus a 2x wild represented by vocalist Martina Cori. Hit a cluster of 5 of her and you’ll collect 50 times your stake. With high volatility, Black Mamba can be played on all devices with stakes ranging from 0.20 to €/$100 per spin.
Black Mamba (Play’n GO): Features

In terms of mechanics, Black Mamba plays very similarly to other Play’n GO grid slots such as Rise of Olympus and Troll Hunters 2. It uses the same 5-reel, 5-row layout, where wins are created when 3 or more matching symbols connect in clusters horizontally or vertically. When a win hits, those symbols disappear and new ones drop in, meaning a single spin can produce multiple wins. On top of that, every successful cascade increases a win multiplier by 1x, much like the system used in Red Tiger’s Dragon’s Fire Megaways slot.
If you’ve tried any of the grid slots mentioned above, you’ll recognise the randomly triggered features that can appear on a non-winning spin—called Solo features here. Which one you get depends on the currently active band member (shown by the character standing next to the reels), and each one performs a specific action:
- Alexandra – Two symbol sets are destroyed and removed from the grid.
- Cecilia – Adds one or two wilds to the grid.
- Fred – Changes one set of symbols into another symbol.
- Martina -When Martina triggers, she destroys the bottom row, clearing all symbols except wilds and also creating a Martina symbol in place of other band members currently visible. If no band member symbol lands on the bottom row, no wild is awarded. This feature can only be triggered during the Concert feature and in the free spins round.
As expected from a Play’n GO grid slot, there’s a Charge Meter. Wins involving band member symbols help fill it; the meter has 6 sections total, and each symbol fills it by 1. Once 4 sections are filled, the Concert feature activates, and if all 6 sections are charged, the meter becomes overcharged, carrying the win multiplier into the feature as an added perk. When the Concert feature begins, the band members rotate through their respective actions. And if you entered it with an overloaded meter, you’ll also have the win multiplier on your side.
The main attraction in Black Mamba is the Free Spins feature, triggered by clearing the entire grid of symbols. During this mode, the band members perform their solo actions on every losing spin. Even better, Marina performs her action on every spin. A win multiplier is also in effect—it resets between rounds to the multiplier value carried over from the triggering spin, but it has no upper limit. Free spins can be retriggered too by charging the meter the same way as before: charging 4-5 and 6 symbols awards 2 or 4 spins respectively. Lastly, the Concert feature can also trigger during free spins, and clearing the grid awards an instant cash prize of 50 times your total stake.
Black Mamba (Play’n GO): Verdict
For new players, the game might sound like a lot when it’s all spelled out like this. More experienced players, on the other hand, may be wondering what’s actually different. And that’s fair—if you’ve played other Play’n GO grid slots, very little here will catch you off guard. The most notable twist is probably the win multiplier, but beyond that it’s essentially Rise of Olympus dressed up with an Italian rock band theme.
So should you give it a go? Definitely. If you enjoy this style of grid slot, Black Mamba is likely to land well, though the theme may be a dealbreaker for some (and a big plus for others). Few studios match Play’n GO in the grid slot space, and even if many of these games share the same foundations, they remain easy to keep coming back to.
From a maths perspective, Black Mamba feels as well tuned as the other titles in the series, while still being highly volatile. The maximum win is 5,000 times your stake, and although the odds of hitting that are under 1 in 100 million spins (“So there is a chance” as Lloyd Christmas would have said), the comparatively modest win cap helps keep the experience more balanced and supports more regular 500-1,000x hits. All in all, Black Mamba is another strong addition to the Play’n GO grid slot lineup—or, as the band might put it: Black Mamba, molto bene.
