Beat the Beast Dragon’s Wrath: Slot Overview

In 2020, Thunderkick kicked off its five-game Beat the Beast series with Kraken’s Lair, then wrapped things up roughly 8 months later with Griffin’s Gold. Those releases leaned into mythical creatures and straightforward, hard-hitting mechanics. Around the same period, the studio also introduced its Crystal Quest line, though that one appeared to run out of steam after 3 titles. Fast-forward a few years and, for whatever reason (maybe a touch of nostalgia), Thunderkick has returned to the Beat the Beast universe with Beat the Beast Dragon’s Wrath, delivering another round of beast-filled, no-nonsense action.

As you’d expect from a dragon-themed slot, the setting drops players into a fantasy landscape of mountains and castles surrounded by crisp, natural scenery. It also has that familiar Beat the Beast vibe, almost like stepping back in time, because it looks and plays very much like the earlier entries. That’s not a knock—these games are known for their clean, bright, chunky presentation, and it’s a style Thunderkick tends to do particularly well.

Part of the “simple” formula in a Beat the Beast slot is the layout, and that means 5 reels and 9 paylines—a configuration used across the series so far, Dragon’s Wrath included. Wins are paid for matching symbols landing left to right from the leftmost reel along a payline. As with the other titles, it’s a highly volatile game, offering a default RTP of 96.18% with stakes ranging from 10 c to $/€100 per spin.

For payouts, stone-framed 9 to A royals make up the lower-value symbols, returning 4 to 5 times the bet for 5 OAK. Above them sit a sword, a helm, a ring, a dragon statue, and a dragon head, with 5-of-a-kind prizes of 10 to 50 times the bet.

Beat the Beast Dragon’s Wrath: Slot Features

Multiplying wilds are the main attraction here. You’ll see a preview of them in the base game via the Dragon Emblem symbol, but they truly shine once the free spins round is triggered naturally or accessed through a purchase.

Dragon Emblem

The Dragon Emblem acts as the scatter symbol and also the wild, replacing all other symbols in the base game. Dragon Emblems carry a multiplier of x2. If a payline win contains one or more multiplier wilds, their multipliers are totalled together.

Bonus Game

Landing 3 Dragon Emblem symbols anywhere awards 3 free spins. During free spins, Dragon Emblem symbols transform into Roaming Wild symbols, substituting for all other symbols and staying on the reels until the feature ends. Before each new free spin, Roaming Wilds move to a different position. Whenever a win includes one or more Roaming Wilds, +1 extra free spin is granted.

Roaming Wild symbols also come with a multiplier starting at x2. When a Roaming Wild contributes to a win, its current multiplier is randomly added to one of the other Roaming Wild symbols, up to an individual maximum of x50. If a win uses more than one Roaming Wild, the multipliers are added together, allowing a total maximum value of x150.

Feature Buy

In Dragon’s Wrath, players have the option to purchase entry into the free spins feature from the base game. The price is 125x the bet and it runs at a default RTP of 96.44%.

Beat the Beast Dragon’s Wrath: Slot Verdict

Reviewing Dragon’s Wrath felt a bit like reconnecting with an old flame after years apart—slightly dubious, strangely familiar, and, in the moment, enjoyable. It shares plenty with the last Beat the Beast release, Griffin’s Gold, though a handful of tweaks here and there help it feel a little different overall. Not wildly different, but enough that fans of the series will notice the distinctions.

The highlight is, unsurprisingly, the Jammin’ Jars-style roaming wild free spins feature. You begin with 3 spins, with an extra spin awarded for each win involving a wild, and the multipliers can climb far higher than before. While Griffin’s Gold‘s wild multipliers topped out at x5, here they can reach x50, and free spins always kick off with 3 of them in play. That said, note that in Dragon’s Wrath, wild multiplier values are added together when more than 1 is used in a win, whereas in Griffin’s Gold they multiplied each other. In certain respects, this version feels tighter and more direct, though it’s not necessarily more extreme than its predecessor. Oddly, Dragon’s Wrath caps out at 11,111x the bet, which is indeed half of Griffin’s Gold‘s maximum win. Even so, we’ve yet to see Thunderkick’s entries in this line land anywhere close to their stated top potential.

Overall, Dragon’s Wrath comes across as roughly on par with the previous game at best—possibly a touch weaker—but not clearly stronger. That leaves room for a bit of guesswork: perhaps Dragon’s Wrath was once in the running to be the Beat the Beast finale back in 2020, only for a decision at Thunderkick to go with Griffin’s Gold instead. Maybe player feedback brought this one back, or it sat on the shelf for a while until a few dedicated Thunderkick advocates got the go-ahead to release it. Whatever the backstory or motivation, Beat the Beast fans should be pleased enough with what they get, even if they’re left wishing for a bit more punch or innovation. It works as an alternative to Griffin’s Gold—some will prefer it (others won’t)—and it delivers a familiar but solid dose of relatively simple gameplay, presented cleanly, with features that can still surprise.
