Bass Boss: Slot Overview

Pull on a canvas cap and dab some zinc on your nose, because it’s time to head out on the lake in Red Tiger’s fishing-themed slot Bass Boss. Fishing slots clearly aren’t going anywhere, and once again bass is the target species. Maybe it’s because bass are a fun catch, maybe because they’re found all over the globe, or maybe it’s simply that “bass” pairs nicely with words like “boss” or “bonanza.” Either way, let’s cast off and see what kind of haul Bass Boss has in store.

At first glance, Bass Boss sent a slight shiver of concern down the spine. Not because it looks poor—quite the opposite, with its pale cerulean water, rolling hills, and trees painting a wholesome outdoor scene. The worry was more about the memories it stirred up of Red Tiger’s InfiniReels experiment, the dreadful Get the Gold. The surrounding blue water around a 5-reel game panel, plus the fisherman perched in the upper-right, could almost pass for a prospector with a quick outfit swap. Thankfully, Bass Boss proved far more enjoyable, helped along by a twangy country-and-western-style tune that suits the game’s upbeat character.

Outside of titles like 4 Fantastic Fish and Golden Catch, fishing slots rarely come with enormous ceilings, and Bass Boss follows that pattern. Still, its 4,835x max win is a healthy figure versus much of the genre—though how often it’s actually achievable is another question. The slot is highly volatile and runs with a theoretical return to player of 95.7%. That’s a decent RTP, but it sits below the default top settings seen in Pragmatic Play’s popular Big Bass Bonanza series. Stakes (or bait, if you prefer) begin at 10 p/c, rising to $/€20 per cast, and the game is available across devices.

Before long, standard line wins started to feel secondary compared to landing fish money symbols or keeping an eye out for scatters. That said, line wins are paid when three or more matching symbols land on adjacent reels from the left across any of the 10 fixed win lines. The low symbols are ten through ace, paying 1-3x the bet for five of a kind, while reels, hats, tackle boxes, and boats make up the higher-value set, returning 10-30x the bet for five of a kind. Bass Boss does not make use of wild symbols.

Bass Boss: Slot Features

Bass Boss slot – fishing feature

With fishing slots, it’s usually a safe bet that some kind of collection mechanic will be involved. That tradition—sparked long ago by the classic Fishin’ Frenzy—continues here in Bass Boss. The key pieces are fish symbols, which can land anywhere and appear in 4 types – Grey Fish worth 2x or 5x, Blue Fish worth 10x or 15x, Green Fish worth 30x or 50x, and Orange Fish worth 100x or 200x.

In the base game, the fisherman randomly drops a hook so that it sits level with one of the game grid’s rows. Any fish symbols on that row are collected and their values are paid out. If the hook drops when no fish are present on that row—or the fish are sitting on different rows—then no prize is awarded. To help out, there’s a Nudge feature where the fisherman can shift the hook to another row for a chance to snag more fish. There is also a chance multipliers are added to the float in the base game, boosting the value of collected fish symbols. Multipliers can be x2, x3, x5, or x10.

Contest Spins

Hitting 3 or more Contest Spins symbols activates the bonus, awarding 10, 15, or 20 Contest Spins for landing 3, 4, or 5 Contest Spin symbols on the screen. During Contest Spins, the fisherman holds his hook in the water the entire time. After each Contest Spin, he will either leave the hook where it is or move it up or down to a different row to try and catch fish.

Every fish collected in Contest Spins is recorded on a progress bar with 4 levels. Advancing requires catching 8 fish, and whenever a new level is reached, players receive +10 extra Contest Spins plus a multiplier that applies to any fish caught from that point onward. The multiplier increases in this order – x2, x3, x5, and x10.

Bass Boss: Slot Verdict

If only real-life angling were as straightforward as it can be in Bass Boss. Here, as long as the hook drops to the right depth and the fish are present, they’ll practically swim over and latch on. The smaller catches come fairly easily, at least. The bigger, more valuable fish symbols won’t appear on every cast, but they do show up—and impressively, the 100x fish was landed thanks to one of the random Nudge row moves the fisherman occasionally makes to give players a boost.

Even so, Bass Boss isn’t exactly a relaxing day out, so don’t expect giant money fish to constantly hop aboard. Reaching the fourth level in Contest Spins multiple times still didn’t guarantee a standout result. On paper, though, landing an Orange 200x fish at level 4 with the x10 multiplier on the float is a mouth-watering scenario, taking you close to halfway toward Bass Boss’ 4,835x the bet max win. For context, that’s more than double Big Bass Bonanza and higher than Bigger Bass Bonanza or even Big Bass Bonanza Megaways. It’s a touch below Big Bass Splash, and there are no monster trucks—something that might matter to certain outdoorsy types.

Whether Bass Boss’ top-end payouts are truly attainable is open to discussion, but fishing is as much about the experience as the trophy, right—being out in nature and doing the hunter-gatherer routine? If that’s the vibe you’re after, Bass Boss fits nicely into the expanding catalogue of fishing slots. It brings a cheerful tone, the bright visuals typical of the theme, and plenty of chances to reel in fish money symbols. They won’t always be the kind of catch worth boasting about, but there’s enough here for fortunate anglers to land a moment of glory—at least in theory.
