Here, winning symbols are removed from the 6×7 grid and replaced through an avalanche mechanic that continues as long as fresh wins keep appearing. If multiple wilds contribute to the same cluster, the multipliers on those wilds are combined and then applied to the generated wild. Regular wilds carry a value of 1. Avalon X: Slot Verdict

These X slots really are unpredictable wild cards. Just when it feels like the Gold series is truly finished – or at least put to rest – ELK Studios turns up and borrows a few strong concepts to give it fresh momentum. Maybe “revive” isn’t quite right, since this isn’t a Kane-led adventure (and it doesn’t bring a huge amount of innovation), but it does breathe some life into the formula and takes it in an intriguing direction. A big part of that intrigue comes from the Mystery Boxes, which contribute massively to Avalon X’s fun factor. To be fair, they behave largely the same as they did in Avalon Gold, with a couple of differences – unfortunately, the Swiper effect is absent – but overall they remain a smartly built feature worth coming back for.

Wilds and the global multiplier are two other headline acts, both operating in ways reminiscent of Katmandu X and Propaganda. The standout is how everything links together: winning clusters push up the global multiplier, wilds enhance one another, and the way wild multipliers impact the win before the global multiplier kicks in is a genuinely strong touch. The main letdown is that the global multiplier doesn’t apply to coin wins, which could have been a nice step forward. Even so, Avalon X creates tension from multiple directions – global multiplier growth, clusters spawning wins, wilds merging and splitting, and coin wins delivered through Mystery Boxes. Versus some of the games that shaped its DNA, Avalon X’s 10,000x win cap is a bit modest, but it’s still plenty big enough to serve as tempting icing on the cake.

It’s fair to say Avalon X isn’t ELK Studios’ most groundbreaking release. From a mechanical standpoint, it’s assembled from familiar parts taken from several other games, with not much that feels entirely new to get overly excited about. Still, ELK Studios consistently delivers highly playable, polished slots, and Avalon X fits that mould – even if it’s largely built from spare components.
