Astros: Slot Overview

Somewhere in the depths of Red Tiger’s studio, you could imagine a team whose job is to come up with strange, fresh ways to keep players entertained and offer different approaches to online betting. From those hidden corners of imagination, titles like Astros could easily be born. That’s obviously a bit of storytelling on our part, but inspiration can come from anywhere, and Astros does lean on a format you don’t see in online slots every day. Here, you’re trying to land consecutive wins to open up rows on a pyramid-shaped grid and push toward its top prize, with the chance of triggering the Seven Prize bonus feature along the way.

With a pyramid-style playfield, developers don’t have endless theme options—Egypt and Central America are the obvious fits thanks to their famous structures. Alternatively, there’s the volcano route, like Play’ n GO’s Gold Volcano or Push Gaming’s Mount Magmas. Red Tiger has chosen the Egyptian route this time, delivering pyramids, golden glow, and the familiar exotic soundtrack that comes with the territory, all tied together in a setting that makes sense for the concept.

The play area is made up of 5 rows which, from bottom to top, contain 7, 6, 5, 4, and 3 symbol positions. Multipliers sit alongside rows 2 to 5, while the very top displays a 5,000x prize value—although this is not the game’s maximum winning potential, not even close. Astros allows stakes of 10 c to $/€2 per spin, and this highly volatile slot runs with a default RTP of 95.72%.

From the screenshots and gameplay, it’s clear Astros doesn’t operate like a typical multi-reel slot where everything spins at once. Instead, each row acts as its own level, with the first spin happening on the bottom row. Symbols show bet multipliers of worth 0.1x to 100x. When at least 3 of the same kind land, those symbols become active, and the payout based on the first 3 matching symbols is awarded. If more active symbols of that type appear, their displayed values are added to the total win. So, landing 3 of the 10x symbols pays 10x the bet, and if another 10x lands as an active symbol, the combined win becomes 20x.

Hitting 3 matching symbols on the first level unlocks the next level, and you must land at least 3 symbols of an active type on each level to open the following one. Symbols on level 2 and above are only active if there are at least 3 of the same symbol type on the level below, and if you land fewer than 3 matching symbols on any level, the spin ends and the accumulated win is paid out.

Astros: Slot Features

The additional elements you’ll encounter in Astros include its wilds, the level multipliers, and the Seven Prizes bonus.

Wild

Wilds can appear on any level of the pyramid and replace all symbols apart from the scatter symbol.

Level Multipliers

Every level beyond the first base level shows a multiplier to its right. Levels 2, 3, 4, and 5 carry a multiplier of x2, x5, x10, or x50, respectively. When matching active symbols land on level 2 or higher, the value added to the total win is multiplied by that level’s multiplier.

Seven Prizes Bonus

Bonus symbols can land on level 3. Landing at least 1 bonus symbol activates the Seven Prizes bonus. During this feature, bet multiplier prize symbols are shuffled on 7 positions. A random prize is assigned to every position, and the combined total of those prizes is paid out. The available prize values for each of the 7 positions are 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x, 20x, or 100x. If more than 1 scatter lands on level 3, the Seven Prizes bonus payout is multiplied by the number of scatters that triggered it. Landing 3 active symbols on level 5 unlocks the final 5,000x prize, which is added to the win built so far and then paid out in full.

Astros: Slot Verdict

If the intention behind Astros was to stand out, it definitely succeeds. It’s not wildly alien, though, as a somewhat comparable “build the rows” style was already seen in Rome Supermatch and Grim Reaper Supermatch from Nailed It! Games. In certain respects, Astros is more straightforward than those titles, with fewer special symbols and without a long list of extra mechanics. Most of the gameplay comes down to landing enough matching active symbols across consecutive rows to chase the 5,000x prize at the top, picking up wins along the way and growing the final payout total.

In the course of the review, the top prize wasn’t reached, and getting into the upper rows proved difficult. Most spins would stall out around the second reel at best. Once the third row is reached, the tempo slows, letting players linger on each position as it spins and drops symbols, which helps build tension. It’s easy to picture how nerve-racking the final row could feel, as matching symbols either cling to the 5,000x prize or fail to connect, leaving players watching it drift away like smoke through their fingers. As noted, that top prize isn’t the full ceiling anyway, though it would certainly help on the road to the 25,900x max win.

Many players will likely spend most of their time focused on the bottom row—or perhaps the bottom two—while trying to break through to the higher levels. Still, Astros’ unusual structure, paired with its strong maximum win potential, may be enough to keep players pushing on, stacking rows in the hope of eventually reaching it.
