Arizona Diamonds (Stakelogic): Overview

Stakelogic’s last outing had players striking oil in the Wild West on a mission to become a tycoon. They must have enjoyed the setting, because Arizona Diamonds is placed in a similar region of the USA. This time, though, the emphasis is on taking in the natural landscape rather than drilling into it. Arizona isn’t exactly famous for diamonds, but it is rich in scenery. The American plains return, so look out for herds of wild animals, stampedes, and sweeping open views. It’s a theme that’s been used in plenty of slots, so it takes something genuinely different to stand apart. Let’s see what Arizona Diamonds brings that rivals don’t.

The first attempt at doing something different is the Quattro engine. Arizona Diamonds runs on a 5-reel, 4-row layout—and why spin one grid when you can spin 2, 3, or even 4? You can do exactly that by tapping the small number at the bottom right of the reels. Coin values range from 0.01 to 1, which is then multiplied by the 40 bet lines to create total stakes of 40 p/c up to $/€40 per spin. Obvious as it may be, it’s worth noting that your bet level is multiplied by the number of grids you activate. Even though the spin cost rises, symbol combination values do not increase when playing more grids. Arizona Diamonds has a solid RTP of 96.21%, paired with medium volatility.

Most symbols match the theme nicely. At the low end are the familiar J – A symbols, where three of a kind or more forms a win. The higher-paying picture symbols work a bit differently. There are two groups—one set shows a single animal per symbol, while the other set displays two animals and counts as two single symbols. Hopefully that’s clear. In practice, these picture symbols pay when 5 – 10 of a kind appear. With only 5 reels, you’ll need those double symbols to unlock the better returns. The animals are classic range icons like wolves, pumas, bears, eagles and buffalo. Buffaloes pay the most, though only slightly, at just 5 times the stake for 10 across a full payline. The logo symbol is the wild and can land on every reel. It substitutes to complete wins with any base game pay symbol, and it also pays up to 12.5 times the stake for five of a kind.

Arizona Diamonds (Stakelogic): Features

Diamonds were always going to feature somewhere, and here they act as the scatter. The goal is to land 4 of them stacked on the first reel. When that happens, they lock in place and the remaining reels on that grid respin. If additional diamonds appear, they also lock, and the respins continue. This keeps going until no more diamonds land or the grid fills with 15 diamond symbols, which award 15 free spins.

In Free Spins, landing 4 identical high-pay symbols stacked on the first reel activates the Lock and Spin Bonus feature. So if it were 4 bears, for instance, any further bear symbols or wilds lock in while the other positions respin. The sequence continues until no more bears or wilds land or the grid is completely filled. As a result, respins can occur across multiple free spins, adding a lot of extra play time to the bonus round.

Stakelogic have added one extra mechanic as well: a gamble feature. After any win, you can take the payout or risk it for a bigger return. As with most gamble options, picking the correct card colour doubles the win, while choosing the correct suit quadruples it. Pick wrong and you lose the win entirely. Opinions on gamble features vary, but if you want to try it, you’ll need to spin manually—the option isn’t available during auto spin.

Arizona Diamonds (Stakelogic): Verdict

The Quattro system is the main idea behind this slot. Without it turned on, Arizona Diamonds feels fairly standard. So does enabling Quattro make it more attractive? For some players it may make it a little easier to enjoy, but for us it didn’t add much. In the end, Quattro feels like a basic solution, and adding extra grids comes off as a bit of a gimmick. On top of that, if you only activate 2 of the 4 grids, the other 2 remain visible, essentially showing you what you’re not playing. Cheers for the reminder.

As for win potential, it’s about as average as the rest of the experience. The maximum you can realistically aim for on a single spin on any grid is 1,000 times the stake. That’s not awful on paper, but it would mean hitting a full screen of wilds. Arizona Diamonds clearly isn’t designed for chasing huge, life-changing payouts. With its relatively mild volatility and a consistent flow of small but regular wins, it’s better suited to casual players than serious high-risk hunters.

After the high-volatility, high-upside ride of Strikelogic’s previous release Black Gold Megaways, Arizona Diamonds is a much calmer proposition. If you like the American wilderness vibe but Arizona Diamonds’ numbers don’t convince you, a strong alternative is Buffalo Rising Megaways. It uses very similar visuals, but comes with a sharper engine and math model, along with far stronger potential.
