Arcane Reel Chaos (NetEnt): Review
A supervillain is tearing the city apart, and a squad of shadowy metahumans is the only thing standing in his way. At its core, Arcane Reel Chaos leans on familiar superhero storytelling, yet its cast is far from the traditional cape-and-cowl type. You’ll team up with the oddball mutant heroes Psyop, Flare, Zero.x and Chronos as they take the fight to the evil Deep Pockets. This is NetEnt’s second superhero slot in just over a month, but Arcane Reel Chaos delivers a much darker, more mature tone than the kid-friendly, Disney-inspired Wild Worlds.
Even with its slick, layered presentation, the game sticks to a straightforward 5-reel, 3-row and 20-payline format that’s as familiar as its comic-book setup. Available across all devices with stakes from 20 cents to 200 Euros per spin, it spices up the base game with randomly triggered mini-features where the heroes drop in to award Overlay Wilds, Stacked Wilds, Multipliers and Respins—pushing wins with multipliers as high as 10x. The main clash happens in the multi-stage Free Spins bonus, where the multiplier can reach 4x.
Arcane Reel Chaos is also NetEnt’s first release to introduce the new Play User Interface (Play UI). Built to offer a cleaner, more straightforward playing experience, this interface is set to roll out across all new titles later in the year. From now on, the paytable is shown in cash values rather than the more confusing coin values (though coin play will still be available), which is a genuinely welcome improvement—and one we’d like to see adopted more widely.
NetEnt’s signature production quality is on full display. The action unfolds among the wreckage of an old cathedral (made eerily timely given the Notre-Dame fire happening as we write), with A, K, Q, J and 10 as the low symbols alongside the four superhero characters. The standout payer is the sinister Deep Pockets: hit 5 of him across a full payline and you’ll collect 50 times your stake. There’s also a wild symbol in the lineup, doing the standard job of substituting for all symbols except the scatter.
Arcane Reel Chaos (NetEnt): Features

On any spin the base game, the superheroes may show up randomly to unleash their abilities on the reels. Each one is tied to a specific hero, and you can expect the following:
- Psyop (Super Power: Stacked Wilds) – may award between 2 and 3 fully stacked wild reels.
- Zero.x (Super Power: Overlay Wilds) – when zero.x arrives, you’ll get 3 to 5 wilds placed at random across the reels.
- Flare (Super Power: Multiplier) – this powerhouse increases your winnings by x3, x4 or x5.
- Chrono (Super Power: Respin) – triggers only after a non-winning spin. All reels respin and keep doing so until a winning combination lands. With every respin, the multiplier meter rises by 1, up to a top value of x10.
The conflict with Deep Pockets reaches its peak in the Free Spins bonus, triggered by landing 3 scatter symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 at the same time. In this mode, you’ll face him across up to 4 different levels as follows:
- Level 1 – the villain has 2 health points + a x1 multiplier
- Level 2 – the villain has 4 health points + a x2 multiplier
- Level 3 – the villain has 5 health points + a x3 multiplier
- Level 4 – the villain has 6 health points + a x4 multiplier
Beat the last level and you’ll receive an extra reward called the Victory Bonus.
Arcane Reel Chaos (NetEnt): Verdict
Interestingly, the strongest upside sits in the base game rather than the free spins feature, which is the opposite of what you usually see. Although most of the features are fairly modest for returns (roughly 500x), the real heavy hitter is Chrono’s Respin feature, where wins can climb as high as 1212.5 times your stake.
The story works well, and the characters feel thoughtfully built. From a design perspective, it’s beautifully produced and packed with features that blend together smoothly to support the theme. That said, the comparatively limited top-end potential is a bit of a letdown, but since the random features tend to trigger quite often, NetEnt may have aimed for a steadier experience by spreading payouts more evenly.
One more thing to mention: the underlying mechanics feel strikingly close to South Park Reel Chaos, an older NetEnt slot that was removed from the market. Put simply, it wouldn’t be surprising if NetEnt has repurposed an expired game concept here.
