Anubis 2 DoubleMax: Slot Overview
Slot developers, for some reason, seem especially drawn to Anubis—the jackal-headed god of ancient Egypt associated with mummification, the afterlife, and guiding souls through the underworld. He’s shown up in plenty of casino titles and previously took centre stage in Reflex Gaming‘s DoubleMax slot Secret of Anubis (2023). That release clearly resonated, because the studio has revisited the theme with Anubis 2 DoubleMax, a game that doesn’t just tweak the name—it changes almost everything else too, from the feature set to the core stats.
Visually, Anubis 2 carries that familiar Reflex Gaming style—crisp and modern in some areas, a little old-school in others. The reels sit between hieroglyph-covered pillars under a blazing, red-tinted Egyptian sky. The graphics aren’t spectacular, but they’re not unpleasant either, and they’re backed by a swaying, exotic soundtrack that suits the setting. The updated title above the grid feels a bit odd at first, and it hints that plenty more has been reworked.

Play takes place on a 5×3 matrix, with wins formed left to right from the leftmost reel and right to left from the rightmost reel. There are 20 paylines available. The top RTP has been reduced to 94%, and the win potential has also been lowered, while the volatility stays high. Alongside stakes of 20 c to $/€100, players can enable the Golden Bet, which lifts the stake by 25% and makes the Anubis feature trigger more often.
The symbol set includes J-A, scarabs, pharaoh masks, Cleopatra-style royals, and Anubis. A line of 5 matching low symbols pays 0.5-1 times the bet, while 5 matching premium symbols return 1.5 to 10 times the bet. Five-of-a-kind wins award payouts in both directions. Wilds can appear on any reel, though only during the Anubis feature. They substitute for any paying symbol and share the same value as the Anubis symbol.
Anubis 2 DoubleMax: Slot Features

The key mechanic in Anubis 2 is the Anubis feature. The Anubis feature may trigger on any losing spin. When it does, it shuffles the reels to create a winning result, and once that win is paid, the reels shuffle again. If a shuffle produces another win, the feature continues; if a shuffle fails to create a win, the feature ends. Every win during the feature is affected by a win multiplier. The multiplier trail starts at x1 and doubles each step, up to x2,048. Each winning shuffle moves the multiplier trail forward by +1 step, and the current multiplier is applied to that win. Once the feature finishes, the multiplier resets to x1.
When the Anubis feature begins, up to 6 wild or super wild positions are added to random spots on the multiplier trail. If the trail reaches a position containing one of these wilds/super wilds, it is placed onto a random reel before the next shuffle. Super wilds are exclusive to the Anubis feature. They are 3 position high wild symbols.

Anubis 2 DoubleMax: Slot Verdict
Surprisingly, Anubis 2 ends up feeling nothing like Secret of Anubis. Whether that makes it “better” is difficult to argue, but it’s undeniably different. Reflex Gaming has rebuilt the feature package, dropping the Sand Storm feature and removing the Pop and Drop Cascades; even the free spins round has been cut. Replacing all of that is the Anubis feature, and your opinion of this mechanic will probably decide whether the game clicks for you or not. On the positive side, the Anubis feature can deliver strings of repeat wins, with each one doubling the multiplier in the way DoubleMax slots are designed to. On top of that, you can potentially activate added wilds and even added super wilds. In practice, these feel essential, because the shuffle mechanic only rearranges what’s already on the screen—no new symbols spin in, and there’s no cascade-style removal and replacement. So if the initial layout is poor, there’s a real possibility the overall outcome will be poor too.
It’s a strange approach, but it’s still worth checking out for fans of DoubleMax slots. Is it stronger than the usual formula these games follow? Unfortunately, not really. The drawbacks are the ones noted above, plus the fact that the Anubis feature is entirely random. In other words, normal winning spins don’t automatically set off the DoubleMax multiplier, so you’re oddly incentivised to miss in the base game, since only losing spins can start the feature. Adding to the peculiarity, Reflex Gaming has also slashed the max win from 20,000x+ in Secret of Anubis to a much smaller, comparatively, 5,000x.
Reflex Gaming is a developer that tends to do things its own way, ignoring trends to produce games that feel distinctly theirs—for better or worse. As a follow-up, Anubis 2 highlights that independence, pushing against expectations with a renamed title, fully reworked features, and a sharply reduced win ceiling. Normally, it’s safe to assume fans of the original will enjoy the sequel too, but with Anubis 2 that’s far less certain, because the two slots are so different from one another.
