Aiko and the Wind Spirit: Slot Overview
In a sector that moves fast and quickly tires of the same old ideas, developers need to push boundaries or fade into the background. One studio that repeatedly manages to pull players into something different is software provider Hacksaw Gaming, thanks to both inventive themes and bold mechanics. With Aiko and the Wind Spirit, the studio takes an unexpected thematic direction, and while the gameplay includes some classic Hacksaw Gaming staples, a few tweaks give the familiar formula a fresher feel.
If you enjoy this kind of aesthetic, Aiko and the Wind Spirit will probably feel genuinely magical. It carries a soft, almost dreamlike tone, shifting from a base game that shows Aiku and her cat Mishu in a serene countryside setting into increasingly mystical moments. It stands apart from potential rivals like Moon Princess, Mochimon, or Starlight Princess 1000. It’s less about exaggerated cartoon glamour and more about gentle, storybook-style atmosphere. Spirits appear, there’s an adorable cat, and a wide-eyed innocence that’s not only unusual for Hacksaw Gaming, but also uncommon across slots in general.

Featuring 14 paylines, wins are created from the leftmost side of the 5×4 gaming grid across adjacent reels. Aiko and the Wind Spirit is a medium-high volatility slot with an RTP of 96.29% at its highest configuration, and it supports wagers from 10c to $/€100 per spin.
The paytable begins with Jack to Ace card ranks, then moves on to a somewhat unclear item, panpipes, Mishu the cat, Aiku, and what appears to be another character. Five-of-a-kind wins pay 1x with royals or 2.5x to 10x with premium symbols. When wilds appear, they replace any paying symbols and deliver 10x for a 5 OAK wild line.
Aiko and the Wind Spirit: Slot Features

Aiko and the Wind Spirit blends some tried-and-true Hacksaw Gaming ideas with a few more recent touches. The familiar part is the expanding wild multiplier symbols, while the more modern element comes from the respin and nudge interaction. Alongside these are three bonus rounds (including one hidden option) plus feature buys.
Expanded Wild Spirits
Whenever a Spirit symbol lands, it expands into a Wild Spirit, stretching upward to the top of the reel – provided the expanded symbol would be part of a win. When a wild expands, it uncovers a multiplier of x2 to x100, which affects all wins that run through it. Spirit symbols that land on the top row can still count as expanded Wild Spirits if they contribute to a win. If multiple multipliers are involved in the same win, they are added together before being applied.
Zephyr Crest Symbols
The Zephyr Crest symbol triggers when at least one Wild Spirit and one Zephyr Crest symbol appear on the grid at the same time. Once triggered, the Zephyr Crest expands all Spirit symbols, even when they aren’t part of a win. All Wild Spirit symbols are nudged one reel to the left if that reel is not already occupied by a Wild Spirit (they cannot be nudged off the leftmost reel), awarding a respin, and applying a new multiplier to each Wild Spirit in view. Additional Spirits and Zephyr Crest symbols may land during a respin, creating more Wild Spirits and further nudges. Only one Zephyr Crest can land at a time.
Spirited Spins – Bonus Game
This bonus starts when 3 FS scatters land in the base game, awarding 10 free spins. The base game rules remain in place, and there is a greater chance of landing Spirit and Zephyr Crest symbols. Across all three bonus rounds, landing 2 or 3 FS symbols grants an extra +2 or +4 free spins, respectively.
Whispering Winds – Bonus Game
Whispering Winds and 10 free spins begin after landing 4 FS scatters in the base game. The rules match Spirited Spins, but with an added x0 Memory multiplier above each reel. When a Wild Spirit lands on a reel whose Memory value is x0, it reveals a multiplier that applies to the win. That multiplier is then stored in the Memory. If a new Wild Spirit lands on a reel with a Memory Value of x2 or higher, its multiplier is revealed and combined with the Memory multiplier. This total multiplier applies to all wins the reel contributes to. Before the next spin, the total multiplier is saved into the Memory. The same sequence applies during respins, where nudged Wild Spirits receive a new multiplier.
Midnight Magic – Hidden Epic Bonus
Landing 5 FS scatters in the base game awards 10 free Midnight Magic spins. This feature follows the same rules as Whispering Wind, and additionally each spin guarantees at least 2 Wild Spirits.
Feature Buy
Here, you can trigger BonusHunt FeatureSpins at 3x the bet to make each spin 5 times more likely to trigger a bonus game or Aiko FeatureSpins at 50x, which guarantees a win with at least 2 Spirit symbols. The non-hidden bonus rounds can also be purchased at 100x for Spirited Spins or 200x for Whispering Winds.

Aiko and the Wind Spirit: Slot Verdict
Hacksaw Gaming doesn’t overload Aiko and the Wind Spirit with an endless list of mechanics, instead building around the expanding wild multiplier action the studio is best known for. It’s an effective twist, not only because it can turn a reel wild and help link symbols, but also because it can boost wins by up to x100 – or even higher when multiple wild reels contribute to the same payout. Thankfully, the developer hasn’t simply reused a favourite trick and stopped there; it has adjusted the formula with the nudge-and-respin element, set off by the Zephyr Chest symbol. Since much of a slot’s meaningful activity often happens toward the left side of the grid, shifting expanded multiplier wilds leftward could be a smart advantage.
It isn’t the most outrageous or never-seen-before idea Hacksaw Gaming has produced since a version showed up in Undead Fortune in 2022, but it does provide a variation and stops the expanding wild multipliers from feeling entirely worn out. The Memory multipliers unlocked in the Whispering Wind bonus round and beyond also help, even if they still feel very on-brand for Hacksaw. None of this is a negative, and it’s more than capable of producing wins up to the 10,000x the bet cap. That said, many players may be attracted to Aiko and the Wind Spirit as much for its theme as for its mechanics, simply because the presentation is so captivating – and that’s hardly a drawback.
All told, anyone who enjoys anime, manga, or Asian-style animation should make time to try Aiko and the Wind Spirit. It offers a softness you rarely find in a slot. And even if the theme isn’t quite your thing, it should still appeal to players who love Hacksaw Gaming’s expanding wild multipliers and want to see a refined take on the concept.
