4Squad Slot: Overview

Suit up, players: Red Tiger is calling you to join a crew of video slot superheroes. It’s a bold move for a developer to tackle a superhero theme in a non-branded slot. When you’re dealing with Batman, The Avengers, or X-Men, it’s instantly easier to hook people in—players already know the characters, their abilities, and their flaws. Go the generic route, though, and it can feel like buying a bargain-bin imitation toy—the outcome can swing either way.

Thankfully, 4Squad doesn’t come across as a diluted copy. The heroes have real personality, and each one brings a distinct power that alters the reels. That said, it isn’t flawless. Just like every superhero has a weak spot, 4Squad has a fairly major one too. Step into the nearest phone box and let’s uncover what it is.

It’s certainly not the visuals. 4Squad may not be Sue Storm from Fantastic Four, but it’s definitely not Beta Ray Bill either. Red Tiger has opted for a grid slot layout of 7 columns and 6 rows, set in a downtown skyline of towering skyscrapers that looks a lot like Metropolis or the Big Apple.

With this setup, 42 symbols land on every spin, and the aim is to hit clusters of 5 or more matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically to score a win. When a win lands, the cluster disappears, letting new symbols tumble into place for the chance to rack up multiple wins from a single spin.

The symbol set blends straightforward low pays with hero-themed high pays. The low pays are sleek, futuristic green clubs, blue diamonds, red hearts, and yellow spades. The high pays are more engaging, featuring the four heroes—Quake is green, Strike is blue, Burst is red, and Beam is yellow.

It may seem odd to call out all the colours, but it’ll make sense once the features tie them together. The last symbol is a power fist, which is the top payer in the game at 50 times the stake for clusters of 20 or more. There’s a noticeable step down for the other premiums, paying from 5.3x to 9x the stake for a cluster or 20+.

Before we get into the super powers, let’s check the mechanics. First up are the stakes, which can be set as low as 10 p/c or as high as $/€80 per tumble. The math model isn’t overly punishing, with medium volatility and an RTP that sits slightly below par at 95.72%. Unfortunately, the game’s potential is also on the low side, which some players may struggle to get excited about. More on that shortly.

4Squad Slot: Features

The feature set revolves around the four superheroes and their matching low-pay symbols. Whenever low or high pays of a specific colour form a cluster, the superhero linked to that colour fills their progress bar. For instance, a cluster of 5 green clubs adds to Quake’s meter, and so on. At the start of each new spin, all progress bars reset back to zero.

If a meter fills completely—either through one big cluster or several smaller ones—the corresponding superpower activates. Each one behaves differently, and their modifiers are:

  • Quake – when the green bar is filled then Quake appears to knock all of the low symbols off the grid to let new symbols fall into place.
  • Strike – when the blue bar is filled then Strike zaps random symbols with electricity to turn them wild.
  • Burst – when the red bar is filled then Burst shows up to clone random symbols.
  • Beam – appears when the yellow bar is filled to award a multiplier of between x2 to x10.

If all four progress bars fill at the same time, Superhero Mode triggers. This grants one free spin with all low-pay symbols removed, and each superhero applies their modifier one after another.

4Squad Slot: Verdict

4Squad has plenty going for it and can be genuinely entertaining. For starters, the theme is handled well for a non-branded superhero slot, and the individual character powers add a fun twist. As expected, the modifiers shine most when they’re chaining together. Overall, 4Squad is a solid game and you can see what Red Tiger was aiming for. Still, after a while, it can start to feel like you’re looping the same patrol route in your cape.

Cluster pays thrive on those huge, never-ending cascades, but 4Squad rarely reaches that level. It has flashes of excitement—Super Mode is the standout—but too often it wraps up before it really has time to build momentum and go wild.

We flagged a weakness earlier, and the likely deal-breaker is the potential, which tops out at just 1,279 times the stake. It’s not entirely clear why Red Tiger chose to limit the squad so heavily, but low potential is definitely the Kryptonite here.

If you’re after a calmer, less volatile, cluster pays slot, it may be worth taking for a spin. 4Squad isn’t as extreme as some of the heavy hitters in this category, which makes it a better fit for casual gamblers who don’t want to get blown up. On the other hand, it rarely delivers those legendary chain reactions that end up making the highlight reels.
